Hi Anjuli, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey has been a bit of a winding road. I started out doing a bunch of odd jobs before landing in the corporate world. I really enjoyed the fast pace and the relationships I built with buyers, but over time, the long hours and lack of fulfillment started to wear me down. Stepping away gave me a chance to think about what really made me happy—my pup.
Living in a city like Austin, full of entrepreneurial energy, opened up a path I hadn’t expected. Back when I was in corporate, I often struggled to find quality daycare and boarding nearby for my dog when I was traveling or working late. I wanted to create something different—a fun, reliable space for dogs in East Austin, and a business that let me spend as much time as possible with my lovable beagle.
Getting there wasn’t easy. I had to learn about city planning, new construction, and all the unexpected hurdles that come with starting something from scratch. And opening a business during COVID-19? That was a whole other level of challenge—constantly adapting and problem-solving. I attribute Doggie Howser Pet Social Club’s success to the support of my family, the local community, and building a team that shares the same love for dogs and the same commitment to creating a welcoming space.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I actually laughed when I read this question—because getting from concept to opening was anything but a smooth road! As any entrepreneur knows, there are constant moments of doubt and second-guessing whether you’re on the right path. That uncertainty was amplified by the pandemic, when the future of so many industries felt up in the air. Finding a location in East Austin proved much harder than I expected, as many spaces weren’t open to leasing to a dog-focused business. Once I finally secured a piece of land, I dove into developing the space, only to be met with COVID-19, which caused delays, supply chain issues, and worker shortages. After four and a half years of persistence, Doggie Howser finally opened its doors.

Technology, including AI-driven monitoring and smart tools, is playing a bigger role in ensuring pets are safe, engaged, and thriving even when owners can’t be there. At the same time, staying on top of the latest trends in dog handling, enrichment, and overall care is key for providers who want to deliver the highest-quality experiences.
