Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce & Sandy Bottcher.
Hi Bruce & Sandy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We started out our business partnership, “Bertram Healing Center” in 2015 officing together. The longer we worked together, the more we realized how each of our skills really complemented the other ones. Patient’s healing results were coming faster and we could see how important each of our modalities worked well together to improve patient care. Being able to work in an environment where mutual respect for the other’s knowledge was shown and appreciated. We were able to share patient concerns and communicate deficits which needed to be addressed. That mutual respect led to “Love and Marriage” in 2017. We call it our “Supernatural Marriage,” finding true love in our 60’s and sharing our love for Christ with our patients through prayer and encouragement. In January of 2018, we were introduced to Nutrition Response Testing through Standard Process, an organic farm which produces quality non-synthetic supplements. Both, Bruce and Sandy were trained in muscle testing to be able to test the body’s Autonomic Nervous System. This has enabled us to help many patients to find out what organs in their body needed nutritional support in order to help the body heal itself. Our goal has been to offer a more holistic approach to healing the total body, mind and spirit.
Bruce offers a diversified chiropractic approach with manual manipulations, yet very specific to each patient’s needs. He also offers a gentler approach using the activator which some of his patients call a “thumper.” Sandy has a background in physical therapy, and has used that experience to go into different body modalities such as Massage, Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage and Bowen Therapy, which is a neuromuscular technique to help bring the body into balance as well as helping the body to release emotions causing pain.
Together, with our wonderful front office help and massage therapists, we strive to give the best service possible in an inviting and loving environment. We are looking for others who would want to come alongside and carry on with this same mind set of helping to bring health, healing and hope to those who cross our path.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with so many other businesses, we face higher property taxes and insurance. After covid, the cost of goods escalated, causing a strain on each of us. We have tried to keep our service prices down in order to help our patients be able to afford their health care, but in order to stay in business, we have to bring in enough to pay our bills also. We are a cash only business, but we do take credit cards, checks and cash. The credit card companies have begun to gouge us with higher prices and extra charges that were not originally charged; therefore, we have had to pass the credit card fees on to our patients.
Another factor is finding competent help with a desire to work. The covid scare shut down massage therapists in 2020 and many were left with no financial support for their families. A massage therapist is a very manual job and many people don’t realize the strain it puts on their bodies. The hiring of a well trained massage therapist has been an ongoing problem.
Because we sell supplements and not drugs, the government does not give any financial aid for truly good supplements. They have contracts with places like Walgreens and Wal-Mart for the medicare programs to help with quarterly purchases of supplements and supplies, but not for our small business. So, the playing field is not very even.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
We are Dr. Bruce and Sandy Bottcher. We both grew up on farms about 800 miles from each other and God brought us together at a church in Burnet, TX about 10 years ago. Bruce spent most of his youth in Bethany, MO, raising hogs, row cropping, riding and breaking horses, and getting into trouble with his twin brother Brian. Sandy was raised in Navasota, TX on a dairy farm, we had a 2 acre garden, three 32 cf freezers for chicken, pork and beef. We always had plenty to eat and didn’t realize we didn’t have money. People made special efforts to show up at our houses at meal time because there was always plenty of food. Hardly ever were we invited over, it’s just hard to add seven more people to the table. Each of us grew up with our biological parents and four siblings. Both from Christian families with a strong faith and father figures who loved us, yet disciplined as needed. Both of our mothers were “stay at home moms” and Great cooks, hardly ever did we go out to eat. Hard work and chores were part of our every day life.
Bruce served in the US Navy as a gunner’s mate, then worked as a machinist, before being drawn into Chiropractic. Sandy graduated from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in 1980 with a bachelor’s in Business Administration and minor in Accounting. From there went into contracting with the Texas Department of Transportation. Then felt called into the healing field, beginning with an Associates Degree in Physical Therapy.
We each went back to school for our second careers and graduated in 1997 unbeknownst to the other. Both of our paths leading to the healing field.
Bruce is a Doctor of Chiropractic, with extensive study in nutrition. Sandy is licensed and certified in multiple types of body work and nutrition. We have been working together at the Bertram Healing Center since 2015, where we realized how well each of our talents meshed together to bring faster healing to our patients and clients when we combine our knowledge. Many of our patients have become more like family, seeing three generations in several families.
