G R X Y shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
G R X Y, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I feel like it’s harder for people to grasp an idea of the direction I’m aiming for, not really just on a one dimensional scale.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey, I’m GRXY, pronounced grey. I’m a 23 year old artist and producer and my sound’s loud, energetic, and built to hit you in the chest. I blend alt-trap, melodic rap, and a little chaos — raw emotion, high energy and unpredictable creating something that hits deep and stands out.
I don’t do background music, I make the kind that takes over a room. Every track’s got a pulse, every bar’s got a mood. It’s bold, unfiltered, and meant to make people feel something real.
On stage, I bring the same energy I put into my music, confident, wild, and in my own lane.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I’d have to say my mom has seen me and what I’m becoming because well naturally that’s my mom you know but the relationship I have with her and our bond has always been really tight, she’s definitely been my day one and best friend through any and every situation regardless of my shortcomings. She’s always encouraged and pushed me to become better in my craft and that if I want this then go after it 100 percent.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I think suffering shouldn’t have to necessarily be looked at as an entirely negative thing. I believe the same way good things happen bad things happen to and that’s just one of those things. I think suffering has taught me more about not getting complacent when you’re on top of a mountain you know? Like the same way you grind when you’re at the bottom or coming up is the same drive you should have when you make it because anything can happen at any given moment either for better or worse.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Definitely yes, I’m very reserved and to myself for the most part but I do know how to communicate and hold conversations. I feel like a lot of me would rather be to myself but a good portion of me is pretty social with the right people like straight up I’m a bit of a loner but like I’m also very vocal if that makes any sense. My friend group is literally like a handful of people I talk to on a day to day basis and when I’m out an about I’m pretty quiet unless I’m with them or someone strikes up conversation.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I feel like I’m doing what I was born to do, like real talk I’m a rebellious spirit to an extent I can go with the grain but sometimes going against it is more suitable to me like that even goes as far as creating or life like there’s no right way to do it, it’s all in how you operate and how you see fit everyone is their own person of course there’s inspiration but it’s all different. But yeah I feel like music has been my path for a long time and it’s just something I can’t see myself not doing, it’s a part of me possibly one of my favorite parts of me like it’s one of the best feelings when I have a new idea and make it reality then being able to share it with others.
