Today we’d like to introduce you to Janie Quisenberry.
Hi Janie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was asked to tell how I got here.
I graduated UT and moved to LA to do research with autistic children at UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute.
I then became a performer, singing. I recorded and booked out of LA. My first gig was at the Troubadour. My first recording experience was at Seals and Croft studio doing demos. I visited Austin and got to sit in with Kenneth Threadgill at the Split Rail. After that I knew, I just knew, I was coming home to sing.
I sang with a 13-piece swing band for several years, got tired of being just the girl singer so I started my own band, Janie and the Little Darlins. I had a core band but rotated members when needed. I was blessed to have great musicians like Champ Hood, Jimmy Day, Howard Kalish, Philip Fajardo, Frosty, Burt Rivera, Junior Brown, the list went on and on. Life changes and people change.
I once read you should have 3 professions in life. So next I became a Realtor. What did those three careers have in common? Helping people feel better.
I started out with Keller Williams Lakeway, then went to Dewey Hollingsworth in Spicewood, next Joni Langle asked me to come join Bee Creek Realty. I did so and have been there ever since. I love my work.
Bee Creek was located in the old Bee Creek Pueblo at the corner of Bee Creek Road and Hwy. 71. The old landmark was sold. I was the only remaining person in the building as long as it still had walls. 2022 came along and it was time to go. I moved the office out to Spicewood. I drove by the old Pueble a couple of weeks ago and it was gone, even the walls.
I rented some offices in the Hollingsworth building. It is wonderful here. The people are so unique. There are still some cattle ranchers, farmers, shade tree mechanics, famous musicians i.e. WILLIE NELSON, yummy Bar-B-Q i.e. OPIES, and a fair share of the rich and famous. Blend them all together and you’ve got Spicewood.
Bee Creek is ending it’s long 47-year presence. I still have John Stefka’s, the founder, old wooden chair that I salvaged when I moved. I’ll be getting a new Brokerage and will be Bee Creek at All City Real Estate, and I’ll be in the same location. This is my third and last profession. Well maybe. But any way that’s how I got here.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not a smooth road. The first year in my new office I didn’t clear enough to get a 1099 (that means I made less than$695). Then came the massive slowdown in the market. Yes, there have been some very hard struggles.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Bee Creek Realty?
I’m a full-service Realtor. I’m like the Sherlock Holmes of real estate. I love gathering all the details of the property, including history, market value, assets and faults. I am the “get-er-done” agent. I’m most proud of my transactions with foreigners. I’ve closed deals with clients from Mexico, Norway and Australia.
What matters most to you?
Making lasting relationships with my clients.
