Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Jackson.
Hi Justin , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Short background on me: I grew up in South Texas (Edinburg to be exact). Moved to Round Rock when I was 15 and have lived in Central Texas ever since. Went to Texas A&M for my undergrad education and St. Mary’s for law school.
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial and hard working mindset. Even while in law school, I would stain fences on the weekends to earn extra money. While running my law firm, I’ve started or invested in several businesses over the years ranging from a snowcone trailer to a tech software company and a pool construction company. Myself and two business partners started The Roof Joker 5 years ago. It has become one of the leading roofing companies in all of Austin over that short period of time. I have a passion for business and especially the people who we employ and the customers we service. I enjoy the challenge of building a service or product that is superior to competitors.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business is never entirely smooth. I have had several startup businesses fail. That’s a tough pill to swallow. Nobody starts up a business believing it will fail, and so failure is not something that settles well with me. What I have learned is, the more I have failed, the more I have learned and adapted to those failures.
We’ve been impressed with The Roof Joker, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in residential and commercial roof replacement and repair. We are proud that, in only 5 years, we have almost 500 5 star Google reviews and no review less than 5 stars from any customers. We have a laser focus on creating a quality brand and service that the Austin Area can trust among an industry with many untrustworthy businesses.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My best advice is to just do it. Plan, prepare and consider all possibilities. But once you have done all due diligence, you have to execute. There are impulsive business leaders and leaders paralyzed by analysis. You want to find yourself in the middle- someone who plans but who promptly acts as well.
