Daily Inspiration: Meet Ashley Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Scott.

Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As long as I can remember, my dad always had a camera in his hand, documenting our childhood. He was the designated “family photographer” on trips with my grandparents, and those images later became memories we relived together, gathered around the TV. That early exposure sparked my appreciation for photography and storytelling.
When I went off to college, I bought my first DSLR camera from my dad to document my first dog’s puppyhood. I learned to shoot in manual with help from a friend and continued teaching myself through YouTube and hands-on practice.
I was an Animal Science major at Texas A&M University when I landed an internship with ShowChampions Photography, a professional livestock photography company. It combined my academic background with photography and solidified my passion. I continued photographing senior sessions for Texas A&M graduates until returning home during the COVID shutdown midway through my senior year.
I later got engaged to my now-husband and allowed my business, then known as Rambling Rose Photography, to take a step back while I focused on wedding planning, though I continued photographing family and friends.
In the second half of 2023, as a new mom to a baby girl, I rebranded and launched Ashley Scott Photography, LLC full-time alongside being a stay-at-home mom. Since then, my business has grown quickly, allowing me to document motherhood, capture a birth, and build a loyal client base. I’m currently working toward opening my own natural light studio, The Locket, located in Kyle, Texas.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m deeply grateful for the journey I’ve been on, as it has shaped how I run my business. I’ve learned that nothing is too permanent, and that when I genuinely care for my clients, that care is always returned. Imposter syndrome is very real in photography—it can feel like an oversaturated market, leaving you to wonder why someone would choose you over the next person. In those moments, I remind myself, and often remind my fellow photographers, that clients aren’t just booking the work—they’re booking me: my personality, my compassion, and ultimately, my craft.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a lifestyle and natural light photographer specializing in motherhood and graduating seniors. From bump to baby, I’m honored to document the milestones of becoming a mother. My own maternity, birth, and newborn photos are some of my most treasured possessions, and I love being able to create that same experience for other families. In the spring, I photograph many graduating high school seniors, which I truly enjoy. During those sessions, I almost forget that I’m a wife and mom of two—it feels like I was just in their shoes.
Something that sets me apart among the younger generation of photographers is that all of my packages include a tangible heirloom product, whether that’s a beautifully matted print or a bound linen photo album. I love going the extra step for my clients, knowing how easily printing photos gets pushed to the bottom of the to-do list—and how meaningful it is to hold those memories in your hands.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m not sure how much luck has played a role in my journey, but I know without a doubt that my husband and closest friends have been instrumental—and in many ways, that feels like luck in itself. Referrals and word of mouth are some of the strongest driving forces in photography, and they’ve consistently gone out of their way to recommend both me and my business. I truly wouldn’t be here without the support of my family and friends, and I’m already feeling that same excitement and buzz surrounding my new studio—even before we’ve officially opened.
