Lindzey Griffin’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We recently had the chance to connect with Lindzey Griffin and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindzey, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Lindzey — I think we are most proud of the culture we are building in our company and the relationships we develop with our team. We take chances on people, give opportunities to develop skills they can be proud of and try to help them build self-worth and confidence in who they are as a person. Over the last year we have seen so much growth in our employees both personally and professionally. Being in the position to have a an impact on people’s lives is an opportunity we are so grateful to have.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Lindzey — We are an interior and exterior remodeling company. My husband likes to say “once your home is built (whether new or old) we take care of the rest.” Mason and I created Bad at it in 2018 as a small furniture and home goods company, and over the years we developed into full service contractors. We and our team do it all—landscape, hardscape, deck building, siding, painting, drywall, bathroom and kitchen remodel, built-ins and more. We are a strong and versatile team and we take great pride in helping clients bring the vision they have for their homes into reality.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Lindzey — My husband Mason did, absolutely. Since meeting in 2015 he has helped me find strength, develop inner confidence and self-worth and build the fortitude to keep pressing forward. When we first met I had low self confidence and he has believed in me and shown me what is possible from the very beginning. There is no better hype man and he continues to do this for all of our team and generally everyone we come across. He sees the best in people, sees their potential, and finds a way to show them the best version of themselves.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Lindzey — “It only matters what you think about you.” I have always had anxiety and the worry of what people think about me, and “fitting in” has impacted my life. If I could go back, I would love to explain to 14 year old me that in the future the only person I need to worry about pleasing and making proud is myself. Only compare my successes and failures to my own attempts at growth.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Lindzey — Bringing everyone up. I think many of us mistakenly believe that in order to move forward, or get ahead, you have to pass by or step on other people. Every time Mason and I extend a hand and put the time and effort in to help someone else grow or succeed it improves our lives. As a species that survives best as a group working together it is in everyone’s best interest to take care of each other and move forward together. Collaboration and community will help everyone rise.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Lindzey — If people talk about us when we are gone, we hope they talk about our impact. It is our goal to get to the end of the road having made a positive difference, however small, in the lives we come into contact with.
