Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher McAllister.
Hi Christopher , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Life Changers Church Austin didn’t start as a perfect plan on paper—it started with a clear word from God and a “yes” that required faith.
In 2017, I moved my family—my wife and our four children—to Austin, Texas for one reason: we heard the voice of God. We didn’t come with a big team, a big budget, or a guaranteed platform. We came with obedience, conviction, and a burden for a city that was growing fast, changing rapidly, and still hungry for something real. We believed God was calling us to build a church that would be rooted in love, bold in truth, and committed to people from every background.
By 2019, that calling took a defining turn when I became the Senior Pastor of Great Commission Baptist Church. It was an honor—and it was also the moment God gave us language for what we were becoming. We transitioned the name and affiliation, and Life Changers Church Austin was birthed. It wasn’t just a rebrand—it was a reintroduction of purpose: a church for the city, a church for the next generation, and a church that refuses to leave people the same way they came.
As God began to send people, we quickly outgrew not one—but two locations. Doors opened, faith stretched, and God kept proving that when you build according to His voice, He will supply what you need for every season. That growth has now placed us on the campus of the great HBCU, Huston–Tillotson University, located at 900 Chicon St., Austin, TX, where we gather for worship every Sunday at 10:00 AM.
And what’s happening here is bigger than a service time or a building—it’s a movement. Life Changers Church is a place where people of all nationalities and generations can come together, worship together, grow together, and learn how to love one another the way Christ intended. In a city where so many are arriving every day searching for connection and purpose, God is drawing people to Austin—not just for jobs or opportunity, but to become part of what He is building in this season. People are moving here to join this vision, to serve, to plant roots, and to experience authentic community.
Life Changers Church is more than a name—it’s a declaration. We believe God is transforming lives, restoring families, calling leaders, and awakening purpose. This is why we say it with confidence:
Life Changers Church is THE HEART OF THE CITY
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The story of Life Changers Church Austin is full of faith, miracles, and growth—but it also carries some real struggles that most people don’t see from the outside.
One of the hardest realities I had to learn early is this: everybody that starts with you doesn’t always finish with you. When God gives you a vision, He’ll send people to walk with you for a season—but not everyone is called to carry the weight of the whole journey. Some people are with you when it’s exciting, when it’s new, when it feels like an adventure… but when the pressure comes, when the demands increase, when the sacrifice becomes personal, some people fade away. And it hurts—because you don’t just lose help, you lose relationships, you lose trust, and sometimes you lose what you thought was family.
And then there’s the part nobody likes to talk about: people will say they want to help—until help requires hard work and finances. It’s easy to shout “I’m with you!” when there’s a microphone, a service, a celebration, or a social media moment. But church planting and church building is not built on moments—it’s built on mornings and midnights. It’s built on setting up and tearing down. It’s built on giving when you don’t have much. It’s built on long meetings, long drives, long prayers, and long seasons where you’re believing God for what you can’t yet see. When sacrifice gets real, you find out who’s committed to the mission… and who just liked the idea of being connected to it.
Another unexpected challenge was realizing that as we grew, not everybody celebrated it. Some people began to look at Life Changers Church like we were a threat—like we were trying to take something from them. But that was never our heart. We didn’t come to compete. We didn’t come to build a name. We came to build the Kingdom. And it’s painful when people misunderstand your motive, assign intentions you don’t have, or talk about you in rooms you’ll never enter. Sometimes the very thing God is blessing you with becomes the reason people get distant, suspicious, or offended.
But I want to say this clearly: Life Changers Church Austin is not in competition with any ministry in this city. We are not trying to replace anyone. We are not trying to be “the only church.” Our heart has always been—and will always be—to walk hand in hand with ministries all over Austin. Because the truth is, the harvest in this city is too big for one church. Austin needs every Bible-believing, Jesus-centered ministry to be strong, healthy, and effective. We need collaboration, not comparison. We need unity, not division.
And through all of it—people leaving, financial pressure, rumors, resistance, and misunderstandings—God kept us. He strengthened us. He refined the vision. He deepened our prayer. He taught us how to lead with love and still stand with backbone. And if the journey has proven anything, it’s this: when God calls you, He sustains you. The same God who told us to come is the same God who has kept us here—and He’s still building something beautiful in the heart of this city.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
For me, the quality that’s been most important to my success is patience—and true love.
Patience has kept me steady when the process was slow, when doors didn’t open on my timeline, and when I had to keep building without seeing immediate results. It taught me how to trust God’s timing, stay consistent, and not quit in the middle of what He called me to do.
And true love—real, Christlike love—has been the foundation of everything. Love for God, love for people, love for the city. Love is what keeps me serving when it’s inconvenient, forgiving when it’s painful, and leading when it would be easier to step back. True love doesn’t just celebrate people when they’re easy to love—it stays committed, it covers, it builds, and it believes the best.
Patience and true love have carried me through seasons of stretching, criticism, waiting, and growth—because when you lead with love and you’re willing to wait on God, you don’t just succeed… you last.
