Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherri Maley.
Hi Cherri, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up in DFW I loved helping plan things for my family; birthday parties, holidays, etc. Being a planner and host has always been a joy to me! I love taking a theme, a meaningful moment, or a holiday and bringing it to life in a way people will remember. Hosting is just as much fun for me—circling the room, talking with everyone, hearing their stories, and helping create memories together. Fast forward to our move to Wimberley…when my son was young we decided to ditch city life and move to a small town. Since moving here our family has dived into the hospitality business in one way or another. Our family owns and operates Wimberley Getaways and Messina Inn. Which all started with a way for my aunt to have an income without having to work a 9 to 5 when we opened our first suites. From there we added multiple vacation rentals, we even had a breakfast delivery service for bit. Then I started attending classes for hospitality and ultimately ended with two certificates in Weddings and events.
In 2017 we opened Messina Inn, a boutique hotel on 13 acres along the Cypress Creek. We pride ourselves in hosting unique stays and memorable wedding weekends.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have definitely hit some bumps in the road. We actually tried to purchase an existing inn which didn’t work out. Then, we tried to build on a beautiful River property, but the neighbors didn’t welcome that idea. After purchasing the property that is now Messina Inn, what we thought was going to be a 9 month project turned into a 3 year renovation of the property.
There is also navigating being in an industry that our location is heavily saturated. Learning how what set you apart, who your target audience is and marketing has presented challenges.
Being part of a highly competitive market also pushed us to refine our identity, better understand our audience, and focus on what makes our experience different—warm hospitality, meaningful gatherings, and a place where people can slow down and truly celebrate together.
As you know, we’re big fans of Messina Inn & Wimberley Getaways. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We started with Wimberley Getaways which is our families small collection of vacation rentals. We now also have Messina Inn which a boutique hotel with 11 suites and two cottages on Cypress Creek in Wimberley. Additionally our inn has a stunning open-air ballroom along the creek where we host weddings and events.
What made us fall in love with this property was the expansive lawn with lots of beautiful old trees along the banks of the creek. We knew this wasn’t something you see everyday and wanted to share this with others. Now guests can stay and enjoy the peacefulness of our 13 acres with a comfy room, a poolside break, or a peaceful stroll in our nature trail.
My grandmother is huge driver in our practices as she loves nature and architecture. We work hard to preserve this property with a big emphasis on sustainability. We also believe in good old fashioned southern hospitality. This is what sets us apart from most, and is what we are most proud of.
Our family invites you to come make memories here. If you are looking for a relaxing setting to getaway or want a stunning backdrop for your wedding where your loved ones can come together for an entire weekend we would love to show you everything Messina Inn has to offer.
What are your plans for the future?
We’re also working on something new—a coffee shop. Our permit applications are currently under review, and we hope to open in late 2026. Courtyard Cup will serve coffee, pastries, breakfast, and lunch for both our guests and the local community. As a mom and local business owner, I know how helpful it can be to have a convenient place to grab a good cup of coffee or a quick bite, so we’re especially excited to incorporate a drive-through to make that even easier.
The courtyard will also be a beautiful place to slow down and enjoy your coffee, whether you’re visiting Wimberley or just stopping by during your day. We’re continuing our focus on nature and sustainability with compostable to-go containers, composting bins, rainwater used for the plants, and other thoughtful practices that reflect our love for the Hill Country environment.
