Today we’d like to introduce you to Theodore Owens.
Hi Theodore, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Twist Web Studio started from a simple observation. While attending Deaf community events, small businesses, and local markets, I noticed many great organizations and entrepreneurs either did not have a website or did not know where to start.
With a background in IT, customer service, and web design, I began helping community organizations and small businesses create websites that were clean, accessible, and easy to manage. One of my early projects included redesigning the Rainbow Association of the Deaf website, which helped demonstrate how thoughtful design could improve communication and engagement online.
From there, Twist Web Studio grew into a web design studio focused on building modern, accessible websites for nonprofits, community organizations, and small businesses. Today, I work with clients across multiple platforms such as Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, and Shopify to create websites that are not only visually appealing but also functional and inclusive.
My goal has always been simple: help organizations tell their story online in a way that is clear, accessible, and impactful.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. Like many small businesses, starting Twist Web Studio came with a lot of learning and adjustment. One of the biggest challenges was building credibility as a new studio without a long list of testimonials or a large portfolio at the beginning. I had to focus on earning trust one project at a time.
Another challenge was balancing multiple roles. As the founder, I handle everything from design and development to client communication, project management, and marketing. Learning how to manage time, expectations, and growth has been a big part of the journey.
There were also technical challenges along the way, such as migrating websites between platforms, rebuilding my own website when switching hosting providers, and staying current with new tools and technologies.
Despite those challenges, each project helped refine my process and strengthen my skills. The journey has been very rewarding, especially when I see organizations and businesses benefit from having a website that truly represents them and serves their community.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Twist Web Studio?
Twist Web Studio is a web design studio focused on helping small businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations build modern, easy to use websites. The goal is simple: create websites that are clear, accessible, and effective so organizations can communicate their message and serve their audience better online.
The studio specializes in website design and development across platforms such as Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, and Shopify. Many clients come to Twist Web Studio when they need a new website, a redesign, or help improving usability and structure so visitors can easily find what they need.
One thing that sets Twist Web Studio apart is a strong focus on accessibility and real user experience. A website should not just look good. It should be easy to navigate, mobile friendly, and usable for everyone. That philosophy guides every project.
Another thing that makes the studio different is its community driven roots. Twist Web Studio has worked with organizations such as Austin Deaf Club, NASLECE, and the Rainbow Association of the Deaf, helping them strengthen their digital presence so they can better connect with their communities.
Brand wise, what I am most proud of is building a studio that focuses on people first. Every project is approached with the mindset of understanding the client’s goals, their audience, and the story they want to tell online.
What I want readers to know is that a website should not feel overwhelming or complicated. With the right structure and thoughtful design, a website can become a powerful tool that helps organizations grow, connect, and make a lasting impact.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me in several ways. The most common is through website design projects, whether it is building a new website, refreshing an existing one, or improving usability and accessibility. I also help organizations maintain and update their websites so they stay current, secure, and easy to manage.
Collaboration is something I value a lot. I often work with nonprofits, community organizations, and small businesses that want a partner who can help translate their ideas into a clear and effective online presence.
For those who are interested in working together, the easiest way to start is by visiting www.twistwebstudio.com or booking a consultation to discuss a project and goals.
Support can also come through referrals, partnerships, or simply sharing my work with organizations that may need help improving their website. Many of my projects have started through word of mouth, and I’m always grateful for those connections.
My goal is to help organizations build websites that are clear, accessible, and meaningful for the communities they serve.
