Story & Lesson Highlights with TJ THE DJ of Austin

We’re looking forward to introducing you to TJ THE DJ. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning TJ, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of my busy life and DJing most weekends, I really value slowing down and creating memories with close friends. Lately, I’ve also discovered a new love for cooking—it’s become a creative outlet for me and a way to bring favorite people together!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I go by TJ THE DJ, I’m a Tejana DJ and creative powerhouse from a small town in the Rio Grande Valley. I’m passionate about creating spaces where people can come together, celebrate, and feel completely present in the moment. My brand is rooted in fun, nostalgia, and connection. I love blending throwback favorites, pop, Latin rhythms, and high-energy dance music to create sets that feel both familiar and fresh. Whether I’m DJing nightlife, drag shows, or special events, my goal is always to read the room and give people a soundtrack for unforgettable memories. Right now, I’m focused on expanding my reach and continuing to build a brand that celebrates community, creativity, and good energy.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom saw me clearly long before I could see myself. She always noticed the light in my eyes and the energy I carried into every room. Growing up, I was always creating—journaling, writing songs in my bedroom, modeling in fashion shows at our local mall, and throwing myself into activities at school like band, drill team, theatre, and academics. What I saw as staying busy and trying new things, she was witnessing me finding my way. Even when I doubted myself, she never did. She always believed I was meant for something bigger! Her support helped shape the confidence and creativity I carry with me today.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me patience, resilience, and perspective is EVERYTHING. When everything is going well, it’s easy to move through life without questioning much and getting comfortable. But challenging moments have forced me to look inward and learn to trust the path I’m on, because everything happens for a reason. Success can feel good for the moment, but suffering strengthens you in ways that stay with you long after those moments pass.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I try to be as transparent as I can through my brand, so the public version of me is very much rooted in who I really am. My beliefs are genuine, and I’ve never been afraid to say how I feel or stand on what I believe in. At the same time, I do value privacy in my personal life. Not everything needs to be shared to be authentic. For me, it’s about showing up honestly while still protecting the parts of life that are meant to stay personal.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m back at my parents’ ranch, surrounded by open land, family, and a sense of history. It’s a place that reminds me where I come from and helps me slow down from the pace of everyday life. Being there along with my fur babies, Sadie and Stormie, brings me back to a simple kind of happiness that always grounds me.
