Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexa Jack.
Hi Lexa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The Kinectory began in 2012 as Founder and CEO, Dr. Lexa Jack, set to create a classroom where
all children could thrive.
The Methodology originally birthed as a response to a student who had autism. This student dealt with severe aggression and angry outbursts, but he loved music and sensory learning. Lexa brought a single sensory bin into her classroom, and the impact it had on her student was astounding. He was a different child when engaged in sensory play. This led Lexa to purchase multiple sensory tables for the SCHOOL to share. She soon realized that a whole room was needed for kinesthetic learning. This was the first iteration of the Kinectory program. The paiNt had barely dried on the walls when she realized that even more space was needed. The school downsized its office wing to create a multi-room space where the Kinectory could move to explore, discover, and create.
For years, the Kinectory program was housed there, growing, evolving, and publishing observational research to prove its methods. When COVID hit in 2020, the school that housed the Kinectory program closed its doors permanently.
A few years later, Lexa followed the call of God to establish a new preschool system, this time centered around the proven program that had changed so many lives.
Kinectory Learning Centers was formed and now operates in partnership with the local church to reach children and families more effectively than ever before.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Challenges were going from a non-profit program to a privately-owned business. Many lessons were learned along the way and have developed strong systems to be able to replicate what is currently doing done.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Lexa has a doctorate in education with a specialization in curriculum and instruction. Her research is focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) and encouraging young girls to develop STEM confidence and interest at a young age. She has published and co-authored multiple articles about teachers’ STEM self-efficacy, how to incorporate engineering events in early childhood, and young children’s perceptions about engineering. Lexa started as an assistant in a preschool classroom and has done every job in the field over the last 15 years. She has been a director, trainer, professional development specialist, researcher, CEO, and professor. Lexa loves children and believes that all children can learn. It is her joy to instruct educators on how to optimize their time in the classroom for their students’ development.
What does success mean to you?
Doing the best you can with what you have. Success looks different in various seasons. Success can be accomplishing a goal like opening a business. It can look like creating a healthy culture where staff want to work. It can also look like balancing home, parent, and work responsibilities well. Leadership is more of an art than a science, and for Lexa, success means finding healthy rhythms for whatever the current season might be.
