Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabella Holland.
Hi Isabella, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Bella! I’m a busy stay at home mom who has been passionate about baking since I was 7 years old. My mom and grandma baked often and I learned a lot of skill from them. I started with perfecting a banana bread recipe and chocolate chip cookies. I then moved onto cakes and cake decorating and would often make them for family & friends birthdays/events. Back in 2022, I was pregnant with my daughter and my husband encouraged me to open a cottage bakery, I decided to name It Bonnie’s Bakery after my daughter. I started out at various Farmer’s market locations, mainly at Georgetown square and now I frequent the Santa Rita Ranch Market in Liberty Hill, TX during early spring and fall times. While still being a busy mom, I have flexibility to take on custom orders and do 1-2 pop-up markets a month.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a fairly smooth road! I tend to sell out at almost every pop-up market and pretty fast, sometimes I sell out 2-3 Hours early. It takes a couple days of prep and the hours can be early. The challenges we have faced have been the weather mainly when it comes to participating in pop up events. With hot weather we have to make sure our treats stay cool in the shade since most of the baked goods I sell at pop ups contain chocolate. We also tend to have less customers when the weather isn’t as nice however, at the Santa Rita Ranch Market in Liberty Hill, TX is in a perfect location and under a very large pavilion so it makes a great experience for everyone to come out regardless of rain or heat.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make all my baked goods from scratch! My specialty is my Banana bread as it is a recipe that I have taken time to perfect from flavor to texture. My Chocolate Chip Banana Bread & Chocolate Chip cookies are very popular and best sellers in general from regular order pick-up/delivery to my pop ups. What sets me apart from others I believe, is my quality and customer appeal/service. I have worked hard on my recipes to make sure they are great quality in flavor and texture due to the quality ingredients that I select. I use a lot of grass fed butter in my recipes that are more than worth the cost. At my pop-up markets I have a sample display stand where everyone is welcome to try whichever and as many different flavors as they wish to help decide what to order/buy from me.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I would say as far as risk goes, I’ve never had an outside opinion on my baked goods besides friends and family before I started out at markets. I didn’t realize before how much my customers would enjoy my baked goods, that I decided to continue with it. Now my risk as a cottage baker is testing out new recipes which I make in small batches to get feedback and gauge interest before I add it to my menu.
