Today we’d like to introduce you to Emeril Lester.
Emeril, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got started because of God. It wasn’t really a career decision at first it was more of a call and an idea that I couldn’t ignore. I felt a strong pull toward storytelling, especially visual storytelling that reflects real life, faith, and the tension people live in every day.
I didn’t come from film school or a traditional creative background. I just started creating with what I had, learning as I went, and trying to be honest in the way I told stories. Early on, I was making short-form cinematic content around everyday moments, but over time it became clear that the deeper theme in everything I was making was faith what it looks like to follow God while still struggling, still growing, still human.
That led to my series Human but Holy, which unexpectedly connected with a lot of people. It opened the door to a community that resonated with the honesty of it, and it shaped the direction of everything I do now.
From there, I became more intentional about building stories that blend film, faith, and real-life emotion while also expanding into creative brand work, including my bracelet brand OSC (One Step Closer to God), which ties into the same message in a tangible way.
And I’m actually bringing Human but Holy back as a new season, but with a more refined, cinematic direction. The goal is still the same real stories, real tension, and real faith but told in a way that feels like a short film universe people can step into, not just watch.
Right now, everything I’m building comes back to that original calling: to create stories that help people see their walk with God and their everyday life in the same frame.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.
One of the biggest challenges has been financial trying to build something creative from scratch without consistent support or resources. A lot of what I made early on was self-funded, figuring things out as I went, and learning how to stretch what I had just to keep creating.
Another struggle was feeling like I didn’t really have a community around me in the beginning. I was creating in a space where I didn’t fully see people doing exactly what I felt called to do, especially combining faith with cinematic storytelling in a raw, honest way. That can feel isolating at times, like you’re building something without a clear blueprint or immediate validation.
There were also moments of doubt wondering if I was even supposed to keep going, or if what I was creating would ever really connect with people. But those same moments ended up shaping my work the most, because they forced me to lean into honesty instead of trying to force results.
Over time, though, those struggles became part of the foundation. They pushed me to rely less on comfort and more on conviction. And looking back, even the difficult parts were necessary for where I am now and what I’m building moving forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a filmmaker and storyteller focused on cinematic, narrative-driven content that blends real life and faith. Most of what I create feels like short-form TV episodes that explore everyday struggles, internal tension, and what it looks like to follow God in a real, honest way.
I specialize in turning simple moments into meaningful stories through visuals, dialogue, and voiceover. It’s not just about how it looks-it’s about making people feel something and see themselves in it.
I’m best known for my series Human but Holy, which really defined my voice. It’s raw, honest, and centered on the reality that faith isn’t always easy or polished. I’m currently bringing it back with a more refined, cinematic direction.
I’ve also stepped into brand storytelling, creating narrative-style content for products, and launched my bracelet brand OSC (One Step Closer to God) as a tangible extension of the same message.
What I’m most proud of is the impact when people say the content helped them feel seen or brought them closer to God.
What sets me apart is how I blend storytelling with purpose. I focus on making content that feels real, not forced something that sits between entertainment and truth, where people don’t just watch, but actually connect.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important quality behind my success has been obedience.
Everything I’ve built started from a place of feeling called by God to create, even when it didn’t make sense, wasn’t clear, or didn’t come with immediate results. There were a lot of moments where it would’ve been easier to stop or pivot to something more comfortable, but choosing to stay consistent in that calling made the difference.
Along with that, I’d say honesty has been just as important being willing to create from a real place instead of trying to perform or present a perfect image. That’s what people connect with, and it’s what keeps the work grounded.
At the core, it’s really been about staying committed to the purpose, even when the process isn’t easy or fully understood.
