Today we’d like to introduce you to Serena Blake.
Hi Serena, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started off as a bedroom queen in 2020, for the first few years, I would post transition, lipsync, funny clips all on Instagram and Tiktok. A few years into it I went to my very first drag show in 2023 and was absolutely in awe with the art of drag. So I continued showing up to the show and I got offered my first Spotlight. After this, my journey skyrocketed, I ended up performing 40 times before the year ended. i felt on top of the world, the next following year, I was offered a show and I was able to continue that and we found a new venue to make another show! i was a full time drag queen in the spring 2025 and now your all caught up. hopefully in the next year i’ll have another venue for a show and possibly looking into some pageants or competitions. we will see!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
so far, it has been so much fun! i’ve been officially performing since 2023 and I have produced two my own shows in austin, performed in Austin, San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, Houston, and Corpus Christi. The only obstacles i run into with drag is connecting with other queens in austin, other cities is great everyone is so welcoming, inviting, warm. which is what i want to bring to every queen and person that walks into my venue. i’m looking to produce more shows within austin but a lot of businesses owners are nervous about the drag ban which is always an issue at this point. but drag is more than what republicans say about us, we are performing for joy and laughter!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
i perform with multiple types of styles, i love rap, pop, musical theatre, rock, 80’s, grunge, the list can go on and on!
i’m most proud of how i’ve met so many people and queens over the years and i’m so greatful for the knowledge that has been passed on to me. what sets me apart is my authenticity, the love i give to others, and no one else knows their words like i do!!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
engage with your audience and peers. the more love and energy you invest in people the more they invest in you. i’ve had a village since day one of me performing, and luckily i’ve been able to continue that and make more friends and connections that every show i go to now i know i have people showing up for me and cheering me on!
