Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Antich.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The Traveling Psychic Supper Club began when I saw that my clients were connected by their information – the energy that is around us all. I would read someone on a Friday and the following Wednesday I would see a client who was dealing with similar life issues and I began to see – I’m the connecting factor. What if these people could meet, discuss their journeys as a group with me and share a meal, we could all learn and heal together – that’s how the Traveling Psychic Supper Club was born in 2011.
Then I thought well, maybe more people would like to join us – talk about intuition, energy, developing their own personal skills with others who are like minded so I posted a two line free “ad” in the Austin Chronicle and we went live to the public. That was 15 years ago and a Vintage Canned Ham, a Vintage Camper Van and a short stint with the Weinstein Company later (which I broke off) TPSC is still going strong. Hi I’m Deborah Antich, Founder of the Traveling Psychic Supper Club, Traveling Psychic for short.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? Oh absolutely not! BUT one day I saw a bus – the big travel buses – and what I saw was it was wrapped with the words Traveling Psychic Supper Club in orange on the side, so I knew we were on the right path me and all the people that would COME to TPSC over the years. People I didn’t even know yet. Like attracting Like.
But as for the road being bumpy and winding – From being turned away from restaurants I wanted to work with when they found out what the conversation is about – which has happened way more than once – I was told by an establishment in Steiner Ranch “We’re all Christian around here, honey” – which now makes me laugh because so many of my clients see that developing their own inner voice IS strengthening their connection to others in their lives and the world around them, helping them see their true paths, passions and skills for happier relationships in all places. MOST of my clients and friends are religious in some way. But back then 15 years ago there were a lot of hard NOs!! and doors slammed in my face. But the Supper Club was something that other people were looking for – a place to have “those” conversations – you know the ones where people usually lower their voices and say “this might sound crazy” – we have those conversations at TPSC – and we don’t lower our voices – in fact because we meet in local restaurants and DON’T lower our voices we’ve had people stop by the table and actually take a seat and join us!
Word gets out that we are talking “psychic stuff” from our wait person, and soon the whole staff is over telling stories – you would not believe some of the stories of restaurants right here in Austin – the Driskill of course, but also Clay Pit, Moonshine (where we shot the sizzle reel for the never completed Traveling Psychic Supper Club TV show – director was trying to take it reality tv direction where I knew it was meant to be more documentary – but Reality and the networks reigned then – that’s when I was signed with the Weinstein Company. WAYYY back in the day. I told my director the place for us was a little known streaming service that was sending DVDs through the mail – Netflix. But he wouldn’t hear me – and we all know where the networks are now…it just wasn’t time yet. So TPSC stayed small, more underground. The right people came. People from all walks of life wanted to know more, connect and learn together. So we kept rolling on traveling around town, but then also traveling to Dallas, Houston, Sugarland is a big stop for me. Lot’s of Love in Sugarland and TO Sugarland – Clients hosting private events, I also love to provide Private Dinners as fundraisers for non-profits.
So when I saw that Reality wasn’t the way to go I cancelled my contract with The Weinstein Company. I also didn’t want to be on Reality TV. But the road goes on…
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I like being creative with intuition and creating spaces for people to be curious about something that they themselves possess. I take private appointments sure, and I run the Supper Club, but I also lead groups, classes and workshops even overnight respites all over Texas and expanding out into the Southwestern US. I love group dynamics and we are always learning from others so creating the spaces for that is something I love the most. I’m also a person with Autism and ADHD and learning differences and am in recovery from a few different co-occurring obstacles so it’s important to me to create interesting and fun things for people in treatment and recovery too.
I’m also offer Recovery Support Services for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder treatment centers – conducting Sound Baths with processing and Tarot. I think things like that are what I’m most honored to provide, as well as Self Value work with women who are survivors of any kind of physical or sexual trauma, which is so many women. Intuition has played such an important role in my work in the Mental Health / Substance Use Disorder space and gotten me through as a person with lived experience. A project I’m just beginning work on is providing spaces for women escaping domestic violence and abuse to land and that’s a deeply personal part of my work.
What sets me apart from others? Hmmm, well, OK this is what comes to mind. Someone once called it the Deborah Method. A woman I was working with said nobody does it like you – we were talking about classes I’d written and teaching other people to come on to facilitate them during a time I was getting pretty overwhelmed and feeling stretched really thin. I was talking about training others to teach my curriculums. I DO think there is a place for people to teach what I’ve written, in their own way. But she pushed back and said, no – Only you can do what you do – it’s the Deborah Method. But I can’t be everywhere. And online only can do so much, it’s definitely not my favorite. I don’t want to just make videos that people watch – interactive is such a huge part of what I do. You lose so much from even online, but some of the magic still happens.
I DO think I can train people I know – I know so many talented people! to facilitate my work. I always tell people we need so many voices – because certain people will connect with YOU that hear your voice and it speaks to them – and there is more than enough space for everyone to learn, make a living, share experiences and grow together, but also in their own way. I’m actually working with my own hand picked members of the Traveling Psychic Supper Club now to develop more ways to make my work available on a wider scale. Especially the Intuitive Self Confidence, Self Value classes for girls and women. I’ve got hand picked people that are part of my team, that have contributed to MY growth. It really takes all of us.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy? Watching people become what they are truly meant to be and living a happy, full life. Being in nature makes me happy, growing a garden, spending time others like me. Spending time with my adult kids – as adults, and having gotten the opportunity to know them both during every single part of their growth into who they are now. Looking forward to knowing them for the rest of my life.
I love animals and I have a ton. I also really need a lot of time alone. They are a part of that, being with animals and plants and not humans for periods of time. That’s why I live in a camper in the woods most of the time. Some people don’t understand that but to do what I need to I’ve had to create a really different kind of life for myself. I also think it’s important for women (and men) to be able to do what they need to do for themselves to be able to always keep growing in the direction they are meant to be going and it’s taken a lot to keep on that path. But it’s been so worth it. It still is. I’ll always be on this path until the day I die.
I also enjoy traveling and creating experiences outside of TPSC with my husband who is an incredible nature photographer, and getting to see places together through our different lenses. We are really different people. He helps me a lot with things I’m just not good at like tech, handling the travel – he’s a big foodie so he always maps all that for us. I love being on the road on my own too. Sometimes I’ll be at home for too long and I just have to go. Get in Rambler (my camper van) and go.
