Today we’d like to introduce you to Sahiba Bassi.
Hi Sahiba, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story has a lot of moves, a few pivots, and a whole lot of “never say never” moments.
I grew up in India in a military family, so moving was a regular part of life. Every two years, we packed up our home, moved to a new city, unpacked, adjusted, and started again. At the time, I didn’t realize it, but those moves were quietly teaching me some of the most important skills I use today: how to create home anywhere, how to make spaces functional quickly, and how much our environment affects how we feel.
My education and career also shaped the way I work today. I studied Architecture, which taught me to understand space, flow, and function. Later, I earned my MBA in Human Resources and worked as a consultant, which helped me understand people, emotions, behavior, and workplace culture. I loved the combination of space and people, but I didn’t know yet that those two worlds would eventually come together in such a meaningful way.
After getting married, I moved to the US in 2019. I was waiting on work authorization, trying to figure out my next step, when COVID happened. Suddenly, the world slowed down, and so did all the plans I thought I had for myself. That did not stop me, I found the Professional Organizing industry and realized organizing had been a life skill I had practiced my whole life. It was not just about pretty bins or perfect labels. For me, organizing was about adapting, resetting, creating calm, and helping people feel at home in their own lives. And in September 2020, I started Declutter Bee.
Today, I’m proud to be a Certified Professional Organizer and I help busy professionals, families, seniors, and overwhelmed homeowners declutter and organize their spaces in a way that supports their real life. I’ve learned that clutter is rarely just “stuff.” It can come from grief, life transitions, decision fatigue, busy schedules, health challenges, family changes, or simply years of trying to keep up.
My work is not about judging anyone’s home. It is about creating a safe space, making the next step feel manageable, and building systems that help people breathe again. More than anything, I’m grateful that my journey allows me to help people feel lighter, calmer, and more confident in their homes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a meaningful road, but definitely not a smooth one.
In many ways, what people went through in 2020, I went through in 2019. The move to the US after getting married brought a lot of loneliness. But it also pushed me to get out of the house, meet people, and find ways to feel connected. I started volunteering at the local animal shelter and with the Prison Books Program, and those experiences helped me build community during a time of big transition.
Discovering Professional Organzing, starting Declutter Bee in 2020 was exciting, but also intimidating. One of my biggest struggles was low confidence. I knew I had the heart, skills, and life experience to help people, but I had to learn how to trust myself as a business owner. I was a first-time business owner and had to learn everything from scratch. I did not know much about networking and marketing.
Over time, I have realized confidence does not arrive all at once. It builds through asking for help, staying open to growth, showing up, doing good work and learning from mistakes. Through all of this I am proud to say that I have built my community and support system for guidance.
The road has had plenty of bumps, but each one has helped me become more resilient, more grounded, and more compassionate in the way I serve my clients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Declutter Bee is a professional organizing business based in Leander, Texas, serving Austin and the surrounding areas. We help busy professionals, families, seniors, and overwhelmed homeowners turn stressful spaces into calm, functional homes.
But the heart of what we do is not just organizing “stuff.” It is helping people move forward.
Clutter often carries a story. Sometimes it comes from a busy season of life. Sometimes it comes from grief, a move, health changes, decision fatigue, family transitions, or simply not having enough time or support. Our job is to walk into that space with compassion, structure, and a plan.
We specialize in home organizing – closets, kitchens, pantries, garages, storage spaces, paper management, as well as move management. That includes packing, space planning, unpacking, donation drop-offs, and helping clients settle into their homes with less stress.
What we are known for is being practical, encouraging, and completely non-judgmental. Many clients call us when they feel embarrassed, overwhelmed, or stuck. They may say, “I don’t even know where to start.” My answer is always, “That’s okay. We do and we will do it together.”
What sets us apart is that we create systems for real life, not for taking pictures on posting online. A beautiful space is wonderful, but if the system does not work for the people using it every day, it will not last. We pay attention to how each client thinks, functions, shops, stores, cooks, works, and lives. Then we build organizing systems around that.
I am most proud that Declutter Bee has become a safe space for people. We also support clients who are neurodivergent or living with neurological conditions, including ADHD, autism, and MS. Our role is part organizer, part problem-solver, part life coach, part cheerleader, and part accountability partner. We help clients make decisions, rediscover hidden treasures, let go of what no longer serves them, create homes that feel lighter, and sell items that still hold value. We also offer Declutter Bee Plus, a recurring maintenance subscription for established clients who want monthly or quarterly upkeep after their spaces have been decluttered, organized, and set up with systems that work for real life.
The thing I want readers to know is this: getting organized is not about perfection. It is about peace. You do not have to wait until you have more time, more energy, or the perfect plan. You can start small, ask for help, and create a home that supports the life you are living right now.
How do you think about happiness?
Personally, happiness lives in the simple, grounding moments: sunny days (I am Solar-Powered), a hot cup of coffee, long walks with my husband and our dog Frodo, eating outside, gardening, hosting friends, and ending the day with a good movie. Those moments make life feel full, peaceful, and deeply meaningful.
Professionally, happiness comes from seeing people feel lighter. There is nothing quite like the moment a client looks at their space and exhales because the clutter, stress, and overwhelm finally feel manageable. Helping someone move forward without judgment, create calm in their home, and feel hopeful again is one of the greatest joys of this work.
