Today we’d like to introduce you to Maitlynne Alamar.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I first began sewing at a very young age when I was “helping” my mom make Halloween costumes for my brothers and me. When I was 12 the two of us took a beginner sewing class where I learned the basics of this craft. The journey since then has been one of exploration. I have improved mostly by learning from my mistakes as well as a few valuable online tutorials. Through trial and error, I began developing my own patterns and experimenting with various techniques and new ideas. Slowly I began transforming a simple hobby into a passionate pursuit.
By launching the Lady Ash label I am excited to continue my creative journey and share my creations with the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest struggles has been actually figuring out what I am doing and what I want my label to become. I didn’t go to fashion school, in fact this was never something I had considered doing until I came across a posting on Craigslist looking for a seamstress. I reached out to the designer for Too Flame who had posted the ad, and from there I became caught up in fashion. Because of my accidental entry to the industry I often feel lost or like I am meandering, but that has also helped me start to grow a brand that is truly unique and exactly what I want it to be.

Lady Ash creations are ones that you can be proud to wear. We want all of our pieces to inspire confidence and boldness. Lady Ash Design is a brand that is devoted to making each piece unique and special. All of our items are handmade, and one-of-a-kind. Additionally, since we have a focus on individuality, Lady Ash offers clients the opportunity to order their very own custom-made piece.
Our items are also made with a variety of materials and mediums including crochet, sewing, embroidery, and more. As a label Lady Ash Design is also committed to being eco-friendly. We make an effort to use recycled and environmentally sustainable materials. Part of the reason these pieces are special is because they are made with great care, and that includes the materials used.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The best lesson that I have learned is to take every chance and introduce myself to everyone I can find. You can’t be in a show if you never apply, and the worst thing you can hear is “no”. This is an incredibly competitive industry and it is important to take charge and seize every opportunity. To be an artist requires passion, and a challenge is not letting fear hold me back. It is something I am slowly overcoming because I don’t want to look back and think about what I could have done.
