Meet Shelby Tuffentsamer of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Tuffentsamer.

Hi Shelby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2021, I was a fifth-grade teacher in Buda, Texas, creating TikToks as a way to unwind after challenging days in the classroom. What started as lighthearted videos about my three class pet guinea pigs quickly grew into something much bigger. My goal was simply to bring positivity to other teachers who were navigating the same struggles I was.
Over time, I built an incredible online community that supported me through some of life’s biggest milestones and challenges—from the heartbreaks that often come with teaching to my first pregnancy and the purchase of my first home. The encouragement and connection I received from people all over the world showed me the power of storytelling and authentic relationships.
When I went on maternity leave, I realized I wanted nothing more than to spend as much time as possible with my daughter. I began taking on social media management clients, but I was still searching for a career that truly aligned with my passions. That’s when I discovered wedding content creation, and I immediately knew I had found my calling.
Today, I create content for couples, small businesses, and brands I genuinely believe in. Whether I’m capturing a wedding day or helping a business tell its story, my favorite part is connecting with people and creating meaningful content that allows others to feel seen, celebrated, and remembered.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was leaving education. Teaching was never just a job to me—it was the career I had dreamed of since I was a little girl. My grandmother was a teacher, and I always hoped to follow in her footsteps. After spending six years in the classroom, making the decision to walk away was incredibly difficult. The love I have for my students and the impact they had on my life will always stay with me. However, I came to realize that the demands of the education system were no longer the best fit for me or for the kind of life I wanted to create for my daughter.
Another major challenge was breaking into an entirely new industry. Wedding content creation was still a relatively new field, and I had to build credibility from the ground up. To gain experience and create a portfolio, I photographed and created content at several weddings for free, both for friends and complete strangers. It required a lot of faith, hard work, and patience, but those early opportunities helped me develop my skills, build relationships, and establish a business that I’m incredibly proud of today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a full-time social media manager and wedding and event content creator. At the heart of everything I do is storytelling. I specialize in creating authentic, engaging content that helps people and brands share their stories in a way that feels genuine and meaningful.
One thing I’m known for is my ability to connect with people quickly. Whether I’m working with a business owner, a bride, or a brand, I focus on building real relationships and creating an environment where people feel comfortable being themselves. Many of my clients tell me that filming with me feels natural and easy, which allows me to capture the candid, authentic moments that make content truly memorable.
What sets me apart is that I care just as much about the people behind the content as I do the content itself. My background in education taught me how to connect with others, listen well, and make people feel seen and valued. Those skills have become some of my greatest strengths in this industry.
What I’m most proud of is building a career that allows me to support my family while helping others tell their stories. I’ve been able to turn a passion for creativity and connection into a business that celebrates people during some of the most important moments of their lives, and that is something I never take for granted.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The biggest piece of advice I would give to someone starting out is to believe in yourself fully, even before you feel completely ready. It’s easy to compare yourself to others or feel intimidated when entering a new industry, but confidence in your abilities and willingness to learn will take you far.
I also encourage new creatives to reach out to others for guidance, collaboration, and opportunities to build their portfolio. Some of the most valuable lessons and connections in my career have come from simply introducing myself, asking questions, and being open to learning from people who have more experience.
Most importantly, focus on building genuine relationships and supporting the people around you. When you lead with kindness, encouragement, and a willingness to help others succeed, those connections often come back tenfold. The wedding industry is such a beautiful space to work in because it is filled with creative, passionate people who want to celebrate and support one another. When you prioritize community over competition, incredible opportunities tend to follow.
