Daily Inspiration: Meet Andrew Chen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Chen.

Hi Andrew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved food and trying different cuisines from different cultures. I first started filming in NYC but then took a break when I moved to Austin. I started exploring the Austin food scene and was surprised by how many mom and pop restaurants/food trucks serve high quality and authentic cuisines that highlight their own culture. So I decided to pick up my camera again and explore the Austin food scene with the goal of trying new food trucks/restaurants every weekend and highlighting those that I think deserves more spotlight and the public to be aware of them as well!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth but it has definitely been fun. It’s social media so sometimes there’s hate and ridicule that comes my way, however I’ve also seen the positive impact that some of my more viral videos have made on some mom and pop restaurants and that’s what this whole channel is about. It’s not only for me to experience different cuisines and cultures but also for those restaurants who are truly magical to get the spotlight and spread their gift to the world.

The biggest struggle I’d say I’ve experienced is when TikTok got acquired. Before the acquisition I was averaging 50k-100k views and my growth was exponential. However after the acquisition my views dropped drastically and my growth has stagnated. I’m really hoping to get back to the views and growth I had previously so that way I can continue sharing my experiences to a wider audience.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Just like every other guy in Austin I’m in Tech Sales, but prior to tech sales I was an Accountant. I definitely enjoy tech sales more though lol and it’s honestly helped me with my social media as well. It has helped me ask better questions to the restaurant owners/chefs allowing me to better understand the history of the restaurant and in return has helped me make better videos to highlight the restaurant.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m not sure if this is something surprising but my wife and I’s dream is to be able to do this full time and travel the world highlighting different foods/cultures/experiences and share it with our viewers. So if any brands or companies think AndrewsTastingMenu is worth sponsoring and would like to make our dream come true we would be extremely grateful! Hahahaha
