Exploring Life & Business with Chalimar Chieza of Chalimar Chieza Real Estate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chalimar Chieza.

Hi Chalimar, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Austin back when it still felt like a big small town, and while the city has changed dramatically over the years, my connection to it never has. After leaving Austin to attend university in Fort Worth, I eventually found my way back home, where I built a career in education and spent years teaching in both public and private schools.

Like many people during COVID, I found myself re-evaluating what came next. Real estate had always been in the back of my mind, so while teaching full-time and raising a growing family, I earned my real estate license. What started as curiosity quickly became a clear calling.

I entered the industry as a licensed assistant, eager to learn every part of the business. It didn’t take long for me to realize that while I appreciated the role, my ambitions extended far beyond it. I was drawn to luxury real estate and knew I wanted to become a trusted advisor for clients navigating some of the most significant financial decisions of their lives.

Rather than rushing into sales, I intentionally took a step behind the curtain. I joined Sotheby’s as an Operations Manager for the Morshed Group, where I immersed myself in the mechanics of the business—from contracts and negotiations to transaction management and client experience. It gave me a foundation that many agents never have the opportunity to build and allowed me to understand not just how a transaction works, but why.

Three years ago, I transitioned into my role as a Luxury Real Estate Advisor, bringing together everything I had learned along the way. Today, I help clients make thoughtful, strategic decisions using a combination of market analytics, local expertise, and a long-term perspective. I’ve never viewed my role as selling homes. It’s about helping people make smart moves to create longterm wealth—whether they’re buying their first property, building a portfolio, or finding a home that better reflects the life they’re creating.

Outside of real estate, life is wonderfully full. My husband, Tatenda, serves as the Youth Development Director for Cap City Soccer Club, so soccer is a big part of our world. Together we’re raising four incredible children who keep us on our toes and remind us daily what’s most important. When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me traveling, tending to my garden, experimenting in the kitchen, or with a camera in hand trying to capture the beauty in everyday moments.

At the end of the day, Austin is still home, and helping people find their place in it is one of the greatest privileges of my career.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all—and honestly, I wouldn’t want it to be.

Real estate is a business that rewards consistency, adaptability, and a willingness to keep showing up, especially when things don’t go according to plan. I earned my license during COVID while teaching full-time and raising a family, entered the industry in an operational role, and built my career from the ground up. There are certainly moments that have tested my patience, confidence, and perseverance.

But I’ve never viewed challenges as obstacles. I see them as chapters. Every setback has taught me something valuable, sharpened my skills, or prepared me for the next opportunity. Growing up as a competitive athlete, I developed a mindset early on that success isn’t about avoiding adversity—it’s about how you respond to it.

What has kept me motivated throughout the journey is the belief that I’m building something meaningful. Helping clients navigate major life decisions, protecting their interests, and creating opportunities through real estate is incredibly rewarding. That purpose, combined with a healthy dose of determination, keeps me moving forward.

The road hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s made me a stronger advisor, a better negotiator, and a more resilient person. And I truly believe the best chapters are still ahead.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At its core, my business is about helping people make smarter real estate decisions.

I specialize in residential and luxury real estate throughout Austin and the surrounding communities, working with everyone from first-time buyers and growing families to luxury clients and investors. While every client and transaction is different, my approach is always the same: lead with strategy, not sales.

One of the things that sets me apart is that I don’t view myself as a salesperson. I view myself as an advisor. Real estate is often one of the largest financial decisions someone will make, and I believe my responsibility is to provide honest guidance, market intelligence, and a clear path forward—even if that path doesn’t immediately result in a transaction.

As part of Sotheby’s International Realty, I have access to exceptional resources, global reach, and some of the most sophisticated market analytics in the industry. I combine those tools with my deep roots in Austin and a genuine understanding of the neighborhoods, schools, growth patterns, and lifestyle factors that influence value over time.

What I’m most proud of, however, is the relationship side of the business. I never want to be the agent someone used once. I want to be the advisor they call years later when they’re considering a move, evaluating an investment, appealing property taxes, looking for a contractor, or simply wanting to understand what’s happening in the market. My clients know that once they work with me, they have a resource for life.

Brand-wise, I hope people see authenticity. I don’t pretend to know everything, but I work incredibly hard to find answers, advocate fiercely for my clients, and deliver a level of service that makes people feel informed, protected, and confident. Excellence is always my standard. That mindset carries through everything I do.

At the end of the day, houses are what we sell, but helping people build wealth, create stability, and achieve their goals is really the business I’m in.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My day usually starts with my daily devotional and time in the word. No matter how busy life gets, that’s the habit that keeps me grounded and helps me start the day with perspective before the emails, calls, and chaos begin.

As for books, I’m a Gemini through and through—I rarely read just one at a time. My bedside table currently looks like a collection curated by several different people, and honestly, that’s exactly how I like it. Right now I’m bouncing between Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale, Famesick by Lena Dunham, Courage Is Calling by Ryan Holiday, The Wealth Choice by Dennis Kimbro, and Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara.

I love reading across different genres because some of the best lessons come from unexpected places. One day I’m reading about stoicism and leadership, the next I’m immersed in a fictional world, and then I’m diving into hospitality, wealth-building, or culture. Each one challenges me to think differently.

Podcast-wise, my interests are just as varied. I regularly listen to Feel Better, Live More for its thoughtful conversations around health and well-being, The Ninja Selling Podcast, This American Life for storytelling, History This Week, and Financial Feminist for practical conversations around money and financial empowerment.

Beyond books and podcasts, I consume a healthy amount of market data and real estate analytics for work, but I try to balance that with things that fuel creativity and curiosity. Some of my best ideas come while simply stepping away from the screen.

I’ve found that growth doesn’t always come from reading the latest business book. More often, it comes from staying curious, exposing yourself to different perspectives, and being willing to learn something from everyone and everything around you.
