Life & Work with Carson Peter – Founder Of LockJaw of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carson Peter – Founder Of LockJaw.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We started about a year ago after my girlfriend Caroline found our first bass player Ivar, then from there we started to look for a drummer and a singer which we ended up getting my brother to play drums for us. I met our previous singer at a show somewhere and I’d posted about looking for one, he reached out and we finally all came together. Things only started really moving once we put out the demos ep which we recorded in September last year. Around December of last year both our singer and bassist had to step away from the project for personal reasons. Which led us to start looking and posting on TikTok and Instagram to find replacements. Baz our new bassist reached out to us and came to practice and he was great so we kept him. Then after that we searched for a long time for a new singer, and eventually Carter reached out to us and he sounded great so he joined and that’s where we are now.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s had its ups and down for sure. The biggest struggle was finding people that wanted or could be committed to the project.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I play guitar for the band and write all of the songs. I wouldn’t say I really specialize in one specific category I try my best to make the music a reflection of me. Every song the band has is really different from each other stylistically, but all feels like it comes from the same source. I’m most proud of making music that people enjoy enough to want to come and be apart of our live shows.
Talking to and meeting people after shows is the most rewarding aspect of what I do. Just to know that no matter how small my music has made an impact on people is really special to me, and I’m very happy to do it. What really sets me apart from other people or artist is my intention with what I’m trying to do. I only play music I like and want to share with people. I know what I would want to hear if I took the time out of my day to go to a show, and that’s what I try to give our listeners.

How do you define success?
Being able to take care of the people I love.
