Meet Selina Acosta-Amaya of Forma Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Selina Acosta-Amaya.

Hi Selina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey to opening Forma Fitness was deeply personal. After experiencing a very traumatic loss in 2020, I found myself navigating one of the most difficult seasons of my life. During that time, fitness became more than just a workout, it became a form of healing. It gave me a sense of strength, routine, and hope when I needed it most.

As I continued my own wellness journey, I realized how powerful movement can be, not only physically but mentally and emotionally. That experience inspired me to create a space where others could feel supported, welcomed, and empowered regardless of where they were in their own journey.

In February 2026, I opened Forma Fitness, my vision was to create more than just a fitness studio; I wanted to build a community where people could come as they are, move their bodies, heal, build confidence, and find connection.
I am incredibly grateful for the community that has embraced our mission of healing, transformation, and self-love through movement.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has taught me something valuable. As a first-time business owner, I quickly learned that running a business requires wearing many hats: owner, marketer, accountant, customer service representative, and sometimes even maintenance person.
One of the biggest challenges was opening and growing a business while raising my children. There were moments when balancing family responsibilities with the demands of entrepreneurship felt overwhelming. Building a business from the ground up also came with financial risks, long hours, and plenty of uncertainty.
Another challenge has been standing out in a competitive fitness industry. Austin has so many great fitness options, so it was important for me to create something that felt different. Rather than focusing solely on workouts, I wanted Forma Fitness to be a place where people could find community, support, and confidence.
There have been setbacks, difficult decisions, and moments of self-doubt along the way, but those experiences have helped me grow both personally and professionally. Looking back, I’m grateful for the challenges because they pushed me to become more resilient and strengthened my commitment to the mission behind Forma Fitness. Seeing members walk through our doors, build friendships, gain confidence, and prioritize their well-being makes every obstacle worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Forma Fitness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Forma Fitness is a Latina-owned boutique fitness studio in South Austin that offers yoga, mat pilates, and barre classes in both heated and non-heated formats. While we are passionate about helping people become stronger physically, our mission goes far beyond fitness. We believe movement has the power to heal, build confidence, and transform lives.
What sets Forma Fitness apart is the sense of community we’ve created. From the moment someone walks through our doors, we want them to feel welcomed, supported, and seen. Whether they’re stepping into their first fitness class or have years of experience, our goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where everyone can move at their own pace and feel empowered.
What I’m most proud of is the community we’ve built. Watching strangers become friends, seeing members celebrate milestones, and hearing stories about how Forma has positively impacted someone’s physical or mental well-being is incredibly rewarding. Those moments remind me that we’re building something much bigger than a fitness studio. At Forma, fitness isn’t about perfection it’s about becoming the strongest version of yourself, inside and out.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Today I define success by the impact I’m able to make in the lives of others. Success is seeing someone walk into Forma Fitness feeling intimidated or unsure of themselves and watching them leave stronger, more confident, and proud of what their body can do. It’s seeing members form genuine friendships, prioritize their health, and create habits that improve their overall well-being. Of course, I want Forma Fitness to continue growing and thriving, but if I can continue providing a space where people feel welcomed, supported, and empowered, then I consider that a success.
