Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Shultz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My path into chiropractic was a little different than most.
I grew up in Texas in a family rooted in the medical field—my father was a pharmacist and my mother was a nurse. But despite being surrounded by healthcare, I found myself struggling with my own health as a young adult. I was sedentary, overweight, inflamed, and disconnected from what my body was capable of. I lacked strength, mobility, energy, and the ability to move the way I was designed to move.
That experience sent me down a path of learning. I became fascinated by the body’s ability to heal and adapt when given the right inputs. I immersed myself in studying movement, fitness, nutrition, mindset, and healthy lifestyle practices. Along the way, I discovered chiropractic.
What initially attracted me to chiropractic was that it helped me feel and move better. But what kept me interested was the realization that it was really about optimizing the nervous system and helping people function at a higher level. It fit perfectly with what I was learning about health—that the body is incredibly resilient when we remove interference and give it what it needs.
I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Parker University, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and over the last decade I’ve had the privilege of helping thousands of people improve their movement, reduce pain, and build healthier lives.
Today, I’m the owner of Vital Chiropractic & Wellness in Austin, Texas. My mission is not just to help people get out of pain, but to help them create health. Whether through chiropractic care, movement, exercise, lifestyle coaching, or education, my goal is to empower people to take ownership of their health and realize what their bodies are truly capable of.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges has actually been continuing to live the wellness lifestyle myself.
I’m constantly learning. The more I learn about health, movement, nutrition, recovery, and human performance, the more I find myself making small adjustments to my own routines and habits. Sometimes that can be challenging because you’re always evaluating what’s working and what isn’t, but it’s also incredibly rewarding because I get to experience the benefits firsthand. I never want to stop being a student of health.
Another challenge is that most people today have been taught to think about health reactively rather than proactively.
The prevailing mindset is, “I’ll do what I want until something hurts, and then I’ll seek treatment.” Whether it’s medicine, fitness, or chiropractic, most people don’t start paying attention until symptoms show up. Wellness works in the opposite direction. The goal is to consistently do the things your body needs before problems develop. You’re trying to create health rather than chase symptoms. That’s a very different way of thinking, and it can be a difficult paradigm shift for people.
I also think we’ve reached a point where people are fascinated by optimization but often overlook the fundamentals.
There are countless health influencers talking about biohacking, peptides, red light therapy, cold plunges, supplements, and every new trend that comes along. Some of those things may have value, but the reality is that most health is still built through the boring stuff: eating real food, exercising regularly, sleeping enough, staying hydrated, managing stress, and cultivating gratitude and meaningful relationships.
People are often looking for the next breakthrough when they haven’t yet mastered the basics. That’s why I like to say, “There is no supplement for consistency.”
The same challenge exists in chiropractic.
Most people think of chiropractic as something you do when you’re in pain. They come in, get adjusted until they feel better, and then stop. There’s nothing wrong with wanting pain relief—that’s often where people begin—but I believe the greatest value of chiropractic is helping people function better over time.
Just like exercise isn’t something you do once and check off the list forever, spinal health requires consistency.
Maintaining movement, adapting to stress, and slowing the effects of degeneration and postural strain all happen over time. That’s where the biggest benefits are found.
Ultimately, my mission is helping people understand that health isn’t something you get. It’s something you create. And it’s usually created through simple habits practiced consistently over a long period of time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Vital Chiropractic & Wellness was built around a simple idea: health is something you create, not something you chase after once it’s gone.
While we certainly help people with neck pain, back pain, headaches, sciatica, and other common complaints, our mission goes far beyond pain relief. We help people improve the way they move, function, and experience life by optimizing the health of their nervous system and supporting a wellness lifestyle.
What sets us apart is that we don’t view chiropractic as a treatment for symptoms alone. We see it as one tool in a larger strategy for creating long-term health. Our practice combines chiropractic care with education, movement, exercise, lifestyle coaching, and personal responsibility. We want patients to understand not only what we’re doing, but why we’re doing it and how they can take an active role in their own health.
I often tell people that most of the things that create health are not particularly exciting. Eating real food, exercising consistently, getting enough sleep, managing stress, staying hydrated, and maintaining meaningful relationships are still the foundations of wellness. In a world obsessed with shortcuts, biohacks, and quick fixes, we focus on helping people master the fundamentals.
One thing we’re particularly known for is taking time to educate our patients. I want people to leave our office with a better understanding of their bodies and greater confidence in their ability to influence their own health. My goal is not to create dependence on my services. My goal is to empower people to become healthier, more resilient, and more capable.
What I’m most proud of from a brand perspective is that we’ve built a practice that reflects our values. We genuinely care about people. We prioritize relationships over transactions. We strive to create an environment that is welcoming, encouraging, and free from fear-based healthcare messaging. Our patients know that when they walk through the door, they’re going to be heard, cared for, and challenged to take ownership of their health.
At the end of the day, we’re not just helping people feel better.
We’re helping them build a life that functions better.
And for me, that is worth showing up for every day.
