Inspiring Conversations with Maria Alexandra Barboza of Barboza Paralegal Services LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Alexandra Barboza.

Hi Maria Alexandra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began in Maracaibo, Venezuela, where I earned my law degree from Universidad del Zulia (LUZ) in 2013. From an early stage in my career, I developed a passion for helping people navigate legal processes and find solutions during challenging times.
In 2017, I moved to the United States in search of new opportunities and a better future for my family. Like many immigrants, I faced the challenge of starting over in a new country, adapting to a new culture, and rebuilding my professional career from the ground up. While the transition was not always easy, it strengthened my determination to continue serving others.
Driven by that goal, I completed Paralegal Studies at Florida International University and gained valuable experience working in the immigration field. Through that experience, I witnessed how overwhelming and confusing the immigration process could be for many individuals and families, which inspired me to create a business dedicated to helping people navigate those challenges.
In December 2022, I founded Barboza Paralegal Services. My mission has always been to provide reliable, professional, and compassionate document preparation services for immigrants pursuing their goals in the United States. Since then, I have had the privilege of assisting hundreds of clients with a wide range of immigration matters, helping them organize and prepare their applications with confidence.
As a business owner, wife, and mother, balancing family life and entrepreneurship has been both challenging and rewarding. Every client success story reminds me why I chose this path and motivates me to continue growing professionally while making a positive impact in my community.
Today, I am proud of how far I have come—from graduating as an attorney in Venezuela to building my own business in the United States. My journey is a testament to resilience, hard work, and the belief that with dedication and perseverance, it is possible to create new opportunities and help others do the same.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road. When I arrived in the United States in 2017, I left behind my professional career as an attorney in Venezuela and faced the reality of starting over. Like many immigrants, I had to adapt to a new country, learn a new system, and work hard to create opportunities for myself and my family. Although the process was challenging, it also gave me the determination to pursue new goals and eventually build my own business.
One of the biggest challenges was balancing my professional goals with my responsibilities as a wife and mother. Building a business while raising a family often meant working long hours, making sacrifices, and learning how to manage multiple priorities at once.
Another challenge was earning the trust of clients as a new business owner. Starting Barboza Paralegal Services in 2022 required not only professional knowledge but also the courage to take risks, invest in myself, and build a reputation from the ground up. Growing a business in a highly competitive field takes consistency, dedication, and a genuine commitment to serving others.
The immigration field is constantly evolving, which means staying informed about policy changes, procedures, and requirements. I take that responsibility very seriously because my clients trust me with some of the most important moments of their lives and the future of their families.
While there have been obstacles and difficult moments along the way, every challenge has helped me grow both personally and professionally. Looking back, I am grateful for those experiences because they made me stronger, more resilient, and more determined to succeed. Today, I am proud of the business I have built and of the opportunity to help immigrants pursue their goals and build better futures in the United States.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Absolutely. No one achieves success alone, and I am incredibly grateful for the people who have supported me throughout my journey.
First and foremost, I want to thank my husband and my family. Their encouragement, patience, and belief in me have been invaluable throughout the years. Building a business while balancing family responsibilities is not always easy, and their support has allowed me to continue pursuing my professional goals.
I am also grateful to the mentors, colleagues, and professionals who shared their knowledge and guidance with me as I transitioned from being an attorney in Venezuela to building a career in the United States. Their advice and encouragement helped me navigate challenges and continue growing both personally and professionally.
Most importantly, I want to recognize my clients. Every person and family who has trusted me with their immigration, tax, or insurance needs has played a role in the growth of my business. Their trust, referrals, and success stories have been the foundation of Barboza Paralegal Services. There is no greater compliment than a client recommending our services to a friend or family member.
I am also deeply grateful to the immigrant community. As an immigrant myself, I understand the courage it takes to start over and pursue new opportunities. Being able to serve this community is both a privilege and a responsibility that I do not take for granted.
The success of my business is the result of many people believing in me, supporting me, and giving me the opportunity to help them. For that, I will always be thankful.
