Life & Work with Kelly Green of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Green.

Hi Kelly , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This is our 10th year together as a band. We’ve been reflecting a lot this year on how this all started. We should mention here we are a real family band. Jace Cadle (rhythm guitar/vocals) is married to Kelly Green (lead guitar/vocals) who is the sister of Kody Lee (drums/vocals) who is married to Violet Lea (bass/vocals). Welcome to the Family!

We started off as a band called The Texas K.G.B. but changed our name in 2019 to something more fitting for the sound and vibe we grew into.

We’ve been a grassroots band from the beginning. We’ve made our career one fan at a time playing every bar, listening room, and theater we could get into. We’ve cultivated an extremely dedicated and loyal fan base that lovingly call themselves our Fan’mily.

We’ve recorded 5 studio albums and are thrilled to be releasing our first live album and documentary this year. We can check out a few singles this summer and the full “LIVE AT ANTONE’S” album will be out in the fall.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an independent artist in itself is a struggle. You’re no longer just a musician or songwriter. Now everyone has to be their own marketing agency, content producers, and business managers.

We joke that the music business as a whole is a dumpster fire and we are all just hungry raccoons.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are known for our live show. We bring an energy to the stage that is palpable. Since we are a family band, the dynamic feels sincere and authentic.

We’ve been labeled as an “Americana” act because we refuse to stagnate to any one gene. We love pushing the boundaries and our fans really resonate with that.

We have 4 strong singers that can all sing lead and harmonies and we all write our own music. It’s a special assembly that not a lot of bands can pull off. We leave the ego at the door and know that when one of us shines, we all shine until our stage is lit up like a disco ball.

We are proud of the hard-work, dedication, and perseverance it’s taken to get to where we are today. And we’re just getting started.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
We spend so many hours together in the bus so podcasts, books, and music are a necessity. Our rule is, the driver gets to decide what we listen to.

We have an incredible system when we are on tour. We don’t have a driver yet so that means we all take turns. We do 2 hour shifts and we rotate through the whole band. It keeps everyone safe, alert, and well rested.

Follow us online and we share in our stories what we are rocking out to on any given tour.
