Daily Inspiration: Meet Janice Jensen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Jensen.

Hi Janice, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
“I’ve spent more than four decades helping people learn, grow, heal, and navigate life’s transitions. Today, I bring together everything I’ve learned—as an educator, leader, caregiver, coach, and lifelong student of wellness—to help others live healthier, more purposeful lives.”

My journey has been guided by one central purpose: helping people discover their potential and live healthier, more meaningful lives.

I began my career as a middle school teacher in Las Vegas, where I taught mathematics, entrepreneurship, and *The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens*. Those years taught me that education is about far more than academics—it is about helping people build confidence, resilience, and the belief that they can shape their own future.

After my divorce in 2002, I returned home to my ranch in Texas to finish raising my two daughters. While they were growing up, I also began a profound journey of personal growth and professional transformation. In 2003, I founded Personal Expressions Retreat, a nonprofit that provided restorative retreats for women who were survivors of physical abuse. That experience deepened my understanding of healing, resilience, and the remarkable capacity people have to rebuild their lives when given a safe and supportive environment.

In 2011, after my youngest daughter graduated with honors, I accepted an opportunity with the Abu Dhabi Education Council as a school administrator and Head of Faculty. Working with educators from many cultures broadened my perspective on leadership, communication, and the universal importance of creating environments where people can thrive.

When I returned to Texas in 2015, I devoted two years to caring for my mother until her passing in 2017. That experience reinforced my appreciation for compassion, healthy aging, and the importance of caring for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

Those experiences naturally led me to create Aat the Ranch, a place dedicated to helping others reconnect with themselves and with what matters most. Today, my work brings together decades of experience as an educator, certified health and wellness coach, Kundalini Yoga teacher, and lifelong student of health, neuroscience, nutrition, movement, mindfulness, and spirituality.

Whether I’m teaching, coaching, leading a retreat, or simply having a conversation, my goal is the same: to help people cultivate greater health, resilience, purpose, and joy so they can live fully at every stage of life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“I’ve learned that wellness isn’t about avoiding life’s challenges. It’s about developing the resilience, clarity, and inner strength to move through them with purpose.”

It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t change the journey because every challenge has shaped who I am today.

Like many nonprofit founders and entrepreneurs, one of my greatest challenges was financial. Building organizations dedicated to service requires faith, perseverance, and creativity. There were times when funding was limited, resources were scarce, and I had to balance my vision with the practical realities of raising a family and supporting myself.

Another challenge was learning that transformation can’t be forced. Whether I was leading retreats, teaching yoga, coaching wellness, or mentoring others, I discovered that people are inspired when they’re ready—not simply because an opportunity is offered. Some people are eagerly committed to personal growth, while others find it difficult to follow through with the habits and consistency that lasting change requires.

Rather than becoming discouraged, those experiences taught me patience, compassion, and the importance of meeting people where they are. Real, lasting wellness isn’t created overnight. It grows through trust, consistency, and small daily choices.

Looking back, the struggles strengthened my resilience and deepened my appreciation for the work I do today. They reminded me that meaningful transformation is rarely a straight path, and that lesson continues to influence how I coach, teach, and serve others.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
“Janice’s a guide who creates experiences that help people reconnect with their healthiest, most authentic selves.”

I chose the “artist/creative” category because creativity has become one of the most meaningful expressions of my life’s work.

Over the years, I’ve come to believe that creativity is more than making something beautiful—it is a pathway to healing, self-discovery, and personal transformation. In 2019, I began developing therapeutic art experiences that combine painting, movement, mindfulness, and guided reflection. These workshops are offered at the ranch, online, at festivals, and within organizations seeking innovative approaches to employee wellness and stress reduction.

My approach is based on a simple belief: when we intentionally engage the creative process, we often discover insights that words alone cannot access. Painting becomes less about artistic ability and more about curiosity, presence, and self-awareness.

Creativity has been an important part of my own life as well. The practice of painting helps me quiet external distractions, cultivate resilience, strengthen my capacity for joy, and remain grounded during life’s uncertainties. It encourages me to examine limiting beliefs, interrupt unhelpful patterns, move beyond perfectionism, and reconnect with what matters most.

I bring this same philosophy into every workshop I lead. Participants aren’t expected to create a masterpiece. Instead, they’re invited to explore, reflect, and experience the restorative power of creativity in a welcoming, judgment-free environment.

Whether I’m guiding someone through a wellness retreat, a Kundalini Yoga class, a creative painting experience, or a coaching session, my goal is always the same: to help people reconnect with themselves, unlock their innate creativity, and discover practical tools for living healthier, more intentional, and more joyful lives.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
“I don’t believe in luck. I believe in living with intention, serving others well, and being prepared when opportunity arrives.”

I don’t think of my journey as a matter of luck. Looking back, I see a series of opportunities that were created through relationships, preparation, and a willingness to say “yes” when a new path appeared.

Some of the most meaningful chapters of my life came because someone believed in me—a teaching opportunity, an international leadership role, or the chance to build a retreat that served others. Those experiences reminded me that relationships matter. They open doors that we often can’t open alone.

At the same time, I believe those opportunities only become meaningful if we’re prepared to walk through them. Throughout my career, I’ve remained committed to learning, growing, and expanding my skills as an educator, wellness coach, yoga teacher, art therapy practitioner, and lifelong student of health and human potential. Preparation gave me the confidence to embrace opportunities that, at first, felt much bigger than I was.

If there’s one philosophy that has guided me, it’s this: stay curious, continue learning, treat people well, and trust that the right opportunities will emerge. I don’t rely on luck—I rely on purpose, perseverance, and the relationships we build along the way.
