Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloé Dean.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for design started at a young age. With parents who own a construction company, remodeled each of our family homes, and brought me along to job sites, I was surrounded by the design and building process from the very beginning. My mom always jokes that I “grew up with a hammer in my hand,” and looking back, it’s hard not to see how those experiences shaped me. They sparked a passion for design early on and confirmed what I now know to be my calling.
As I got older, pursuing a career in design felt less like a decision and more like the natural next step. Over the past six years, I’ve built my career in luxury residential design, working on custom homes, remodels, and furnishing projects. Along the way, I’ve gained experience in design development, technical documentation, renderings, project coordination, and client management. Becoming a licensed interior designer deepened my understanding of the technical side of the profession and how design decisions translate from paper to the field.
Working primarily in luxury residential design, I love the collaborative nature of the process. Taking a client’s ideas, lifestyle, and goals and translating them into spaces that are both beautiful and highly functional. What I appreciate most about my role is how personal it is. Clients are trusting us with their homes, their finances, and their dreams for how they want to live. That level of trust comes with a great deal of responsibility, and it’s why strong relationships with clients and project partners are such an important part of my work.
I see myself not only as a designer, but also as an educator and steward of my clients’ investments. My role is to help guide them through a complex process, provide clarity where there can be uncertainty, and advocate for decisions that serve both their vision and their long-term goals. It’s truly an honor to help create homes that reflect who they are and support how they live every day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I’m grateful for the challenges because they’ve shaped both the designer and person I am today.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that great design is about much more than creativity. It’s about communication, leadership, problem-solving, and earning trust. Without those things, even the best designs may never come to life.
I also spent part of my career in an environment with a challenging work culture. Although it was difficult, it was one of the most valuable experiences I’ve had. It gave me a clear understanding of the type of leader I want to be and the kind of culture I hope to create as my own firm grows. Everyone deserves to feel valued, supported, and empowered to learn, and that experience reinforced how important mentorship and healthy leadership are to a team’s success.
All of my experiences, both good and bad, have shaped the way I serve my clients, steward their investments, and approach leadership. My long-term goal is not only to create beautiful, meaningful homes, but also to build a company where talented people can grow, thrive, and become the best versions of themselves.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My work is focused on luxury residential interior design, primarily for custom homes and full-scale renovations. I specialize in creating beautiful, livable interiors that feel elevated but still warm and personal. My projects are typically full-service design, from initial concepts and space planning, finish selections to furnishings, styling, and detailed documentation for construction and installation along the way.
What I’m most known for is a very hands-on, detail-driven approach. I don’t just focus on how a space will look at the end. I’m highly involved in how it is built and executed. A big part of my process is front-loading decisions early, so the builder has a clear and complete direction from the start. This helps minimize delays, reduces ambiguity in the field, and often prevents unnecessary costs or change orders later in the project. I aim to anticipate questions before they come up and ensure the entire team has the clarity they need to execute efficiently. The balance between creativity and precision sets Studio-Dean apart. We’re equally focused on the emotional experience of a space and the technical execution behind it.
A big part of my approach is also education. I believe clients should feel informed and confident throughout the entire process, especially in luxury residential work where there are so many decisions and moving parts. I see my role as both a designer and a guide, helping clients understand their options and make decisions that align with how they want to live long term.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is our strong client and partner relationships. Our stewardship-minded approach to design has brought us many of our projects through referrals, which reflects not only the end result of the work, but also the experience of working together.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as creating meaningful spaces, while also making the process feel clear, intentional, and well-supported for everyone involved. To me, it isn’t defined by external metrics like followers or visibility, but by the quality of the work and the experience behind it.
In my design work, success is when a client walks into their home and it truly reflects who they are, how they live, and what they value. It’s not just about a space looking finished, but about it functioning well in daily life and feeling personal to them. If a home improves the way someone lives, even in small ways, that feels like success to me.
Success also looks like a project running smoothly behind the scenes. When decisions are made thoughtfully, communicated clearly, and coordinated early in the process, it creates alignment between the design vision and execution. I take a lot of pride in anticipating challenges, reducing confusion in the field, and helping the entire team work more efficiently and confidently.
On a broader level, success is about relationships and impact. I value being trusted by my clients, building long-term relationships, and often working through referrals, because that trust means more to me than any individual project outcome.
It’s also about growth, not just my own, but the growth of the people I work with. I care deeply about creating an environment where I’m continuously learning, improving, and ultimately helping others do the same. Long term, I see success as building a business and a culture where people feel supported, can grow, and are proud of what they’re creating.
At the end of the day, if the work is meaningful, the process is intentional, and the people involved feel valued and supported, that to me is success.
