Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Jewett.
Hi Marcus, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in Houston, where I studied communications and spent time working as an on-air personality in the Houston market. I’ve always had a love for storytelling, connecting with people, and creating energy through sound and music. Eventually, life shifted. I became a family man, focused on my career, and stepped away from the broadcast world, but I never lost my love for music.
Even when I wasn’t formally working in radio or entertainment, music was always there. I was the person paying attention to the DJ at bars, clubs, and events — watching what kind of gear they were using, listening for the next mix, and studying how they moved the room. I didn’t realize it at the time, but that curiosity was quietly preparing me for the next chapter.
That next chapter started in May of 2024. A friend’s daughter had graduated from college, and they asked if I could help with the music at the celebration. I bought a small 8-inch Bluetooth speaker, brought it to the house, and started playing music. A few people came up and asked, “Are you the DJ?” I laughed and said, “I guess tonight I am.”
Something clicked that night. I woke up around 3 a.m., and my wife, Diana, asked if I was okay. I told her, “Yeah, babe — I think I want to start being a DJ.”
From there, I started practicing constantly. I gave myself a goal: by October 2024, I wanted to book my first DJ gig. I didn’t care if it was a backyard party, a birthday party, or a small private event. I just wanted to get started.
The opportunity came sooner than expected when a colleague from my career in the tech industry reached out about a partner event he was hosting and asked if I would be interested in DJing. I wasn’t expecting my first official gig to be a corporate event at that scale, but I said yes. I traveled from Austin to Dallas, DJ’d the event, and realized I was stepping into something that felt right.
Since then, I’ve continued building the DJ Marco Polo Entertainment brand while also maintaining a full-time career in the tech industry. What started as a personal passion has grown into a business that serves corporate events, private events, birthdays, celebrations, and weddings.
Weddings have become especially meaningful for us. I DJ’d my first wedding in July 2025, and by our fourth wedding, I asked Diana if she would join me more formally. At first, she was helping behind the scenes, but over time she stepped fully into the role of MC. Today, we operate as a husband-and-wife team, with me leading the DJ and music experience and Diana helping guide the energy, announcements, and flow of the event as MC.
It has been an incredibly fulfilling journey. We now have more than 15 weddings booked and continue to grow our client base and business regularly. What makes it special is that we’re not just playing music — we’re helping create moments. Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, birthday, private celebration, or community gathering, our goal is to bring professionalism, personality, and the right energy to every event.
DJ Marco Polo Entertainment provides DJ and MC support for weddings, corporate events, private events, birthdays, and special celebrations. Weddings are a major specialty for us, but at the heart of everything we do is the same mission: to help people celebrate life’s most important moments with great music, smooth flow, and an experience they’ll remember.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely has not always been a smooth road — but I think anything worth building usually comes with some challenges along the way.
One of the biggest challenges early on was balance. I have a demanding full-time career in the tech industry, serving as a director at a Fortune 50 company, while also building DJ Marco Polo Entertainment. In the beginning, before my wife Diana became more involved in the business, I was trying to handle everything myself — practicing, learning the equipment, building the brand, managing inquiries, preparing for events, and still showing up fully in my career and at home.
That created some real bandwidth challenges. There were times when it felt like the business was competing with family time or taking away from the quality time that matters most. Over time, Diana becoming part of the business changed everything. What started as her helping in the background has grown into us operating as a husband-and-wife DJ and MC team, and that has made the journey much more meaningful and sustainable.
Another big challenge was the learning curve. When I was first around the DJ world, it was much more connected to vinyl, radio, and traditional setups. Coming back into it years later, the world had completely changed. Everything was digital — the software, controllers, music libraries, DJ pools, lighting, sound systems, and event workflows. While the technology creates amazing possibilities, there was still a lot to learn and relearn.
Then there was the challenge of building a brand in a market full of DJs. Austin and Central Texas have no shortage of talented entertainment professionals, so I had to figure out what made us different. I didn’t want to just be another DJ with speakers and a playlist. I wanted to create a professional, polished, personal experience that clients could trust.
One of the biggest turning points came when a prominent DJ in Tucson, Arizona offered an opportunity for someone to shadow him at a wedding. I talked with Diana and told her I thought it could be valuable. She encouraged me to go for it, so we bought a plane ticket to Tucson and I went to observe him in action. That experience unlocked something for me. Seeing how he managed the room, supported the couple, worked with the timeline, handled transitions, and created an experience beyond just music helped me understand the level I wanted to operate at.
That moment confirmed that we were on the right path. The struggles have been real, but each one has helped shape the business, sharpen our approach, and remind us why we’re doing this in the first place.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
DJ Marco Polo Entertainment provides DJ and MC services for weddings, corporate events, private events, birthdays, celebrations, and special occasions across Central Texas and beyond. While we support many types of events, weddings have become a true specialty for us because of the care, planning, emotion, and energy that go into making someone’s wedding day feel unforgettable.
What I do goes beyond simply playing music. My goal is to help create an experience. I focus on reading the room, understanding the client’s vision, building the right musical flow, and making sure the event feels smooth, intentional, and fun from start to finish. Music is powerful because it connects people across generations, backgrounds, and life experiences. When it is done right, it becomes the soundtrack to a moment people never forget.
What makes our business special is that it has grown into a husband-and-wife team. I lead the DJ and music experience, and my wife Diana serves as MC, helping guide announcements, transitions, and the overall flow of the event. That partnership allows us to bring both energy and organization to the room. Clients are not just hiring someone to press play; they are hiring a team that cares about the details, the timeline, the family moments, the dance floor, and the overall guest experience.
I think we are becoming known for being personable, professional, and easy to work with. We bring a polished approach, but we also bring heart. We understand that every event has its own personality, so we do not believe in a one-size-fits-all experience. Whether it is a formal wedding, a corporate event, a birthday party, or a private celebration, we take time to understand what matters most to the client and then shape the music and MC support around that vision.
What I am most proud of is how quickly this dream has turned into something real. I started this journey with a love of music, a lot of practice, and a belief that I could build something meaningful. Since then, we have grown the brand, DJ’d weddings and events, and built a growing calendar of future celebrations. Seeing clients trust us with some of the biggest moments of their lives is something I do not take lightly.
What sets us apart is the combination of professionalism, preparation, and personal connection. My background in communications, broadcasting, technology, and corporate leadership has taught me how to communicate clearly, manage pressure, understand people, and show up prepared. Diana brings warmth, presence, and a natural ability to connect with people. Together, we bring structure, energy, and care to every event.
At the heart of it, DJ Marco Polo Entertainment is about helping people celebrate well. We want every client to feel heard, every event to feel intentional, and every guest to walk away saying, “That was a great time.”
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a curious kid. I was raised in a single-parent home in Houston, and my mom carried a lot on her own. My father wasn’t really around, so there were moments where I felt lonely as a child, even though I had support at times from my grandparents, aunts, and other family members.
Because of that, I think I naturally gravitated toward people. I paid attention to personalities, energy, and how people connected with each other. I was always trying to understand the “why” behind things — why people acted the way they did, how things worked, and what made something interesting or meaningful.
I was also the kind of kid who wanted to take things apart mentally. I was fascinated by television, radio, sound, and technology. I wanted to understand how a voice could travel through a radio, how a television worked, and how music or sound could change the feeling in a room. Looking back, that curiosity was probably the beginning of the path that eventually led me into communications, broadcasting, technology, and DJing.
Music was always a big part of my life too. I played in the band and learned instruments like saxophone and clarinet. I really wanted to play drums, but we didn’t have the money for me to get my own equipment, and there were only so many percussion spots available. So I played the instruments that were provided, but I never let go of that interest in rhythm.
Eventually, I got my hands on some drumsticks and taught myself how to play snare drum by practicing on furniture, tables, or whatever I could find. That probably says a lot about who I was as a kid. If something felt out of reach, I didn’t just accept that as the final answer. I looked for a way to learn it anyway.
Personality-wise, I was curious, observant, and determined. I’ve always had an affinity for music, communication, and problem-solving. Telling me I couldn’t do something, or putting a challenge in front of me, almost felt like a dare. I was always looking for a way to figure things out, learn something new, and prove to myself that I could do it.
