Today we’d like to introduce you to Allen (AJ) Johnson.
Hi Allen (AJ), thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a dream to play music and make food, so I’ve worked with the intention to do so my entire life!
Every job I’ve worked with the mindset that it will be training for what I would like to do one day!
People love eating at AJs Patio and it makes me really happy to see that because, just like my music, I feel like our food is art! (Corny! I know!) that’s the truth for sure though, and it’s a big part of the reason I show up everyday with a big smile!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m really an optimist but if I had to mention a hurdle, last year my car got stolen when I was picking up inventory at HEB, and they stole my computer with all my music, all my food that I just got from US foods, my backpack, my interface and my keys for the food truck. It really messed me up. Luckily my good friend Josh Benson was there to help me talk to the police and get me a ride home that day! He also bought me lunch at Chilis cuz I was really down in the dumps. I was also lucky cuz my dad was staying over (long story). He’s the best dad ever and he gave me money for a new computer for my music! I am so lucky to have a dad like that, I really can’t tell yall how much that meant to me at the time. Anyway they end up finding my car a month later, and everything turned out ok!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m proud of my business with the food truck, all my necklaces, bracelets, shirts, incense, and especially proud of my music that I write and get to collaborate on with my friends!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m a happy sunny fun guy but I also scream in a band called Glass Grinder
