Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Morgan.
Hi Julia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started after I graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in Art and Design. I always knew I wanted a creative career. At first, I thought that might be interior design or photography, but becoming a florist was always in the back of my mind, I just wasn’t sure if I could actually make it happen.
My degree gave me a strong foundation in design principles and taught me how to think like an artist. It also introduced me to the basics of running a small business, which had always been another dream of mine.
Everything really changed after planning my own wedding in 2023! I loved dreaming up every detail and working with the incredible vendors we hired. That experience opened my eyes to the wedding industry and sparked my passion for wedding and event florals.
At the time, I was working a job that wasn’t fulfilling, so I spent every free moment learning everything I could about floristry and business. I invested in courses, read books, freelanced for established wedding florists, and practiced every week using flowers from the grocery store. The more I learned, the more I fell in love with the craft!
Eventually, I started sharing my arrangements on social media, and the response was so encouraging. It gave me the confidence to believe that maybe I really could turn this into a career. Soon after, one of my close friends trusted me to design the flowers for her wedding, and I was then asked to create florals for a new event venue near Austin. Those opportunities gave me the momentum I needed and confirmed that weddings and events were exactly where I wanted to be!
My husband, Isaac, is a full-time wedding videographer, and his encouragement gave me the confidence to leave my job and pursue floristry full-time. Looking back, my journey has been built on faith, a willingness to keep learning, and a lot of grit.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been easy! Like many small business owners, I’ve had moments of doubt and wondered whether this career would be enough to support our family. Being self-employed takes a lot of faith, perseverance, and trust that all the hard work will pay off.
This industry also requires you to be adaptable, creative, and self-disciplined. You’re constantly learning, solving problems, and finding new ways to grow. While those challenges can be overwhelming at times, they’ve also helped me become a better designer and business owner!
Another struggle has been overcoming comparison. There are so many incredibly talented florists and wedding vendors, and it’s easy to wonder if there’s room for you. Over time, I’ve realized that every couple is looking for something different, and every florist brings their own unique style and perspective. Instead of viewing others as competition, I’ve found an incredibly supportive community of florists who are generous with their knowledge and genuinely want to see each other succeed.
Looking back, every challenge has strengthened my confidence and reminded me why I started in the first place. I feel incredibly grateful that I get to build a business doing something I truly love and dreamed about doing!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in wedding and event florals, and it is such a privilege to play a small part in one of the most meaningful days of someone’s life. I love creating florals that feel personal and tell each couple’s story.
I’m known for my colorful, whimsical design style and love working with couples who aren’t afraid to embrace bold color, unique details, and a little bit of the unexpected. Much of my inspiration comes from nature, especially the wildflowers I grew up seeing every spring in Central Texas, as well as art, color, and composition. I love arrangements that feel organic, full of movement, and as if they were gathered straight from a blooming garden.
People often describe my work as wild, eclectic, and expressive, and I think those words capture my style perfectly! What sets me apart is that I approach floristry with the mindset of both an artist and a designer. I care deeply about the creative process and strive to create florals that not only feel true to my artistic style but also reflect each couple’s unique vision. More than anything, I’m proud to create work that feels meaningful, intentional, and something my couples will remember long after their wedding day.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
One of the things I love most about floristry is that flowers are living works of art! They’re only around for a short time, but they become part of a couple’s memories through their wedding photos, films, and the experience of the day itself. I love getting to work alongside talented photographers, videographers, planners, and other wedding vendors to create something beautiful together. It’s one of my favorite parts of this industry, everyone brings their own creativity, and together we get to help create a day that couples will remember for the rest of their lives.
