Today we’d like to introduce you to Tren Entrichel.
Hi Tren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started DJing, actually, last year fully. I have always been in music growing up. I’ve played the violin, guitar, and drums. The drums were taken away as quickly as a kid. Obvious reasons why my parents did not like that. I have always been fortunate to be around music and DJs. My godmother worked for Kiss FM, and I was very blessed to have music as a normal day thing. I was always the person who made the playlist for my friend group, the aux cord person. Which People are always saying you should be a DJ. Which is not that easy. I didn’t really know where to start or how to ask for help. Covid happened, and I started digging. I was self-taught when it came to reading music. Then, eventually, I was taught at a school by one of the best teachers and mentors. Now I’m taking bookings and just remembering that it boils down to having fun with it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wish it were smooth sailing. There have been a lot of bumps in the road. You have to be able to handle being told no. There will be a lot of nos before a yes. I think people think it’s this glamorized pushing of buttons. It’s an instrument still. I’m constantly trying to perfect and learn techniques.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a DJ! My sound is tech house and bass house. I do enjoy going out of those genres though. I really thought, like, oh, there are so many DJs and producers that I’m just doing this for fun, nothing else. Then playing the right time and place started getting bookings. That’s when it clicked this can be more than just a hobby. What sets me apart is I’m forsure a personality hire…just totally kidding. I create a set that is heavy on phrasing so there is a theme. I try to stay away from just throwing music hits all together. I’m just really proud how far I have come.
What does success mean to you?
Obviously, if I can pay the bills. Really, after that, if I roll out of bed happy and enjoy what I’m doing, I call that a huge win.
