Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecka Trevino.
Hi Rebecka , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been modeling on and off most of my life but really got into the vintage/ pinup side of it in 2013. My husband had sustained a brain injury and amnesia and his doctor wanted him to stay social. We were living in Atlanta so I started taking him to car shows. Girls there were in pinup and I fell in love with the look. The next event I did my best attempt to pull it off for myself. Several photographers asked me to model with cars at that show and that got the ball rolling. My husband had a long road to recovery but I credit him with the boost to drive me in the direction of my passion for the industry. I primarily donated my time and service to charity events and promotional gigs. Today my husband has made a remarkable recovery (like a Hollywood movie!) and has started his own business (General Quarters Weaponry LLC) and now I help him with that and fundraising for our local VFW (in desperate need!)
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Are there any smooth roads? I haven’t found them! Primary obstacles to my modeling career were my husband’s medical needs (which also brought me opportunities), location (he was Navy and we moved frequently) and of course mother nature (not just weather at my events but also aging in this industry! )
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Im a model and pinup. I specialized in vintage “cheesecake” style (although I modeled many genres). I built a large social media following on Facebook under my model name of Shevi De Lux. It is always flattering when someone in public or at events recognizes me and tells me they have followed my work! Im most proud of the opportunities I’ve had to fundraise for charities and to mentor other ladies that were interested in the pinup lifestyle and modeling. I feel like my professional demeanor set me apart from other pinup “models” as many in this demographic enjoyed playing the part but did not want to put in the work and dedication to set themselves apart. It was a fun hobby to them and they did not always care about others or the causes they were supposed to be supporting.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
