Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniella Perez.
Hi Daniella , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started 12 years ago. I moved to Austin from South TX to attend cosmetology school and immediately fell in love with the city and started my career right away. I was 16 years old when I moved to Austin, started cosmo school at 17 and instantly knew the beauty industry was the field I wanted to be in. I had an amazing mentor who had been a published HMUA all over the world and she not only guided me through school and what my career would be like after, but she also really helped with my confidence. Throughout my career I have had my doubts and occasionally questioned things (really it was just my anxiety tallking) but there were times where I overbooked myself, was exhausted and burnt out. I even stopped taking clients for about a year or so. But I still had my mentors voice in my head. She told me to always say yes if I felt aligned with whatever opportunity came my way, because you never know what doors it could open. She was right. Over the last 12 years I’ve had the chance to work on countless fashion shows, films, productions, weddings, etc. and if there’s one thing readers will take from my story, never give up on yourself.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, mostly because of my anxiety and not always feeling as if I was good enough. I really doubted myself alot but thankfully my clients always spoke life into me and always trusted me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Makeup Artistry. I’m proud of all of my work, but as of recently I’m most proud of having the opportunity to do NYFW and Miami Swim Week. Those are 2 things that have always been a goal of mine and I was finally able to achieve both of them this year. i suppose what sets me apart the most is how patient and understanding I’ve learned to be. Sometimes things happen that are completely out of your control and I’ve learned to just ride things out.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is having confidence in myself. You can do the best job, but if you don’t feel too confident or proud of it, the clients always notice and begin to question things as well even if it looks exactly like any reference photo you may have been shown. Confidence really is key in this industry.
