Today we’d like to introduce you to Eduardo Garcia.
Hi Eduardo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Helados La Azteca started over 20 years ago when my dad immigrated from Mexticacán, Jalisco, and began making traditional Mexican paletas in our family garage. I grew up helping in the business and eventually took on a leadership role to help expand what my family started.
Today, we’ve grown to multiple locations across Central Texas while staying true to our roots—making our products in-house and sharing our family’s story. Our mission is simple: preserve our culture, serve our community, and redefine how paleteros are seen.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. As a family-owned business, we’ve faced financial challenges, long hours, and the difficulty of growing without outside investment. There were years when every dollar went back into the business, and our family did everything ourselves—from making paletas to serving customers. Those challenges taught us resilience and made us appreciate every milestone we’ve achieved.
We’ve been impressed with Helados La Azteca, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Helados La Azteca is a family-owned paletería specializing in handcrafted Mexican paletas, ice cream, and desserts made in-house using traditional recipes. We’re known for combining authentic flavors with a modern brand while celebrating our culture and creating welcoming spaces for our community. Above all, we’re proud to show that a family business rooted in tradition can make a lasting impact.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think success comes down to luck alone. We’ve been fortunate to have opportunities come our way, but those opportunities only mattered because we were prepared and willing to work for them. We’ve also had our share of setbacks, and each one taught us valuable lessons. In the end, consistency, hard work, and staying true to our mission have made the biggest difference.
