Daily Inspiration: Meet Kevin Tong

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Tong.

Hi Kevin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In the early 2000s, I got started by doing gig posters for bands. That took off and led to movie posters, which is quite a bit of what I do these days.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road. Lots of mistakes and failures. Thankfully I view setbacks as learning experiences. I’ve done so many posters that didn’t work or didn’t plan accordingly when doing events like Comic Con.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My specialty is screen printed posters. I enjoy the intersection of illustration, design, layout, typography, and print production.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I went to events where poster artists had set up booths and chatted them up. Then I stayed in touch and learned quite a bit. Artists in the poster world are very supportive.
