Hi Alexandra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I began taking piano lessons at five years old and continued studying through high school before pursuing piano performance at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Along the way, I discovered that while I loved performing, I found even greater fulfillment in teaching others to experience the joy and confidence that music can bring.
I actually began teaching piano out of my home as a teenager, and after returning to teaching part-time in 2020, it quickly became clear that this was what I was meant to do. Today, I teach piano full-time at my studio HomeKeys Piano Studio, where I provide personalized in-home lessons for children, teens, and adults throughout the Austin area.
HomeKeys Piano Studio was built on a simple belief: music education should be personal, encouraging, and accessible. By bringing lessons directly into students’ homes, I’m able to create a comfortable learning environment where students can build confidence, develop strong musical foundations, and discover that learning piano is something they can truly enjoy for a lifetime.
Watching students reach goals they once thought were impossible and find joy in making music is what continues to inspire me every day.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, and I think that is true for most people building something meaningful. One of the biggest challenges has been transitioning from seeing teaching as something I did part-time to fully stepping into it as a career. That shift required a lot of trust in myself, especially in the early stages when I was building my student base and figuring out how to grow a sustainable business. There have definitely been moments of uncertainty, especially when trying to grow while still maintaining a high level of personal connection with each student. And also finding time to play music for myself while running my studio.
Teaching in students’ homes also comes with its own unique challenges, from coordinating travel to adapting to different environments. But over time, those challenges have become part of what makes HomeKeys Piano Studio so special. They have pushed me to become more flexible, more organized, and more intentional in how I teach.
Looking back, those obstacles have really shaped the studio into what it is today. They have helped me build something that is not only structured and professional, but also deeply personal and centered around each student’s experience.

HomeKeys Piano Studio is built on the belief that music education should be personal, encouraging, and accessible. I provide private in-home piano lessons for children, teens, and adults, allowing students to learn in a comfortable environment that supports both their progress and enjoyment.
Each lesson is tailored to the individual, balancing structure with inspiration. Whether a student is just beginning or returning to piano, I focus on building strong fundamentals while helping them experience the joy of making music right away.
I also foster a supportive, low-pressure environment where students can grow at their own pace and build confidence alongside skill. HomeKeys Piano Studio reflects both professionalism and warmth, with every detail designed to feel thoughtful and welcoming. Ultimately, my goal is to help students develop a positive, lasting relationship with music that fits naturally into their everyday lives.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I see the music education industry continuing to shift toward more personalized and flexible learning experiences. Families are increasingly looking for options that fit into their busy lives, which is why in-home lessons and hybrid models that combine in-person and digital resources are becoming more popular.
I also think there will be a growing emphasis on making music education more accessible and less intimidating. Traditional, one-size-fits-all approaches are giving way to teaching styles that prioritize student confidence, creativity, and enjoyment alongside technical skill. Students today want to feel connected to what they’re learning, whether that means incorporating their favorite songs or setting more individualized goals.
Technology will continue to play a role as well, from practice apps to virtual resources and lessons. I also plan to incorporate virtual lessons into my studio offerings. However, I believe the human connection between teacher and student will remain at the heart of meaningful music education.
Overall, the industry is moving toward a more holistic approach that values not just musical ability, but also confidence, consistency, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
