Hi Lex, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Photography wasn’t something I originally planned—it grew into something I truly fell in love with. What started as picking up a camera quickly became a passion for documenting the people and moments that matter most.
One of the biggest parts of my journey has been learning how to rebuild. As a military spouse, I’ve had to move multiple times, which has meant starting my business over in new places again and again. Every move has brought new challenges, from building a client base from scratch to introducing myself to an entirely new community. There have definitely been moments where it felt discouraging, but those experiences have also made me more resilient and reminded me why I love what I do.
Today, I’m a modern portrait and wedding photographer based in Central Texas, and I focus on creating images that feel genuine, timeless, and true to the people in them. I want my clients to feel comfortable enough to be themselves, because those are the moments that end up meaning the most.
Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the journey. It hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has shaped me into a better photographer and business owner. No matter where life takes me next, I’m excited to keep telling stories, building connections, and creating photographs that families and couples can cherish for years to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been being a military family and moving so often. Every time we relocate, I’m essentially starting my business over from the beginning—meeting new people, building trust in a new community, and growing a client base from scratch. It’s exciting, but it can also be exhausting because you’re constantly proving yourself all over again.
Breaking into the wedding and elopement industry has also taken time. Weddings are such an important investment for couples, so earning their trust as someone they want to spend one of the biggest days of their lives with doesn’t happen overnight. I’ve worked hard to build a portfolio, gain experience, and create an experience that helps couples feel comfortable and cared for throughout the entire process.
There have been slow seasons, moments of self-doubt, and times when I wondered if starting over again was worth it. But every challenge has pushed me to become more adaptable, more creative, and more intentional with my business. Looking back, I think those obstacles have made me appreciate every client, every referral, and every opportunity that much more. They remind me that growth doesn’t always happen in a straight line, and that’s okay.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in modern portrait, wedding, and elopement photography with a documentary-inspired approach. While I always make sure my clients have beautiful portraits, my favorite moments are the ones that happen naturally—the laughter, happy tears, quiet glances, and all the little in-between moments that make each story unique.
What I’m most proud of is the experience I create for my clients. I know being in front of a camera can feel intimidating, so I focus on making people feel comfortable, confident, and like they’re simply spending time together rather than posing for hours. When people tell me they forgot the camera was even there, that’s one of the biggest compliments I can receive.
I think what sets me apart is my ability to adapt and connect with people. Moving frequently as a military spouse has taught me how to build relationships quickly and make people feel at ease, no matter where I am. It has also given me the opportunity to photograph couples and families from many different backgrounds, which has shaped both my perspective and my approach to storytelling.
At the end of the day, I want every gallery to feel authentic to the people in it. My goal isn’t just to deliver beautiful photos—it’s to preserve memories in a way that feels honest, timeless, and meaningful long after the day is over.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is to stop waiting until everything feels perfect. It’s so easy to compare yourself to other photographers or think you need the newest gear, a perfect portfolio, or years of experience before putting yourself out there. The truth is, you grow by doing.
I also wish I had known that building a business is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be slow seasons, setbacks, and moments where you question yourself, but those moments don’t define your success. Every session, every client, and even every mistake is an opportunity to learn and improve.
I’d also encourage new photographers to focus on serving people instead of chasing trends. Cameras, editing styles, and social media algorithms will always change, but creating a great experience for your clients and building genuine relationships will never go out of style. Those connections are what lead to referrals, repeat clients, and a business that lasts.
Most importantly, don’t be afraid to tell your own story. People aren’t just hiring your work—they’re hiring you. Your perspective, personality, and the way you make people feel are what truly set you apart.
