Hi Justin Augustus., can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story is a long one. Ill give you the short version, lol.
My name is Justin Augustus Fay but i am known as J. Augustus in the music world.
I am a Music Producer, Recording Artist, Touring Performer and DJ / MC / Event Host and Record Label Owner. I also am a Foley designer and graphic designer but as of late ive been really enjoying teaching thru my mentorship programs.
I have been heavily involved in the genres of ‘Drum and Bass’ and Hip Hop’ for over 20 years. Currently this year I worked on projects that placed #1 on the beatport drum and bass charts and 12# all genre. (Fires In Babylon produced by ELECTRON-C released on GDNBC) I also did vocals on another single (RESPECT produced by DIODE released on NeuroPlague Records) )that hit #22 on the top 100 betport charts.
On top of working in the studio, playing live, mentoring, and having a family… I release myself and many others music on my label, Quaziscience Recordings. The label had a great year with a release named – J. Augustus feat. MC Astro -Snakes (original and remixes) we had great tunes by The Reverend Kathy Russell, Squake, a killer remix by PopeJohn, and the Nuero Banger by Diode. 2026 was good for Quaziscience and it’s artists!!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A smooth ride? Lol absolutely not a smooth ride ever. You might get to coast here and there but thats a rare time. Struggles along the way have been to many to count but thats what you do with struggles or challenges. You fix and solve them to the best of your ability. As a label owner and musician… I quickly learned I needed design experience and business management experience. Those are just the obvious. Owning a label is like being an ear for artists you believe in.. so your not just the person releasing the music for them your a person that needs to be there for them and friendships get developed. But it is alot sometimes on when enough time is enough. Gotta call it and be with your own family, you know?
