Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Mazur.
Hi Marissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always dreamed of opening my own boutique. That passion led me to pursue a degree in Apparel Merchandising at the University of Arkansas, where I graduated in May 2022. Throughout college and after graduation, I worked in a variety of small boutiques and gained experience as both a buyer and in the wholesale industry in Dallas. Although I enjoyed that chapter of my career, I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and felt a strong pull to move back closer to family. I also felt there was an opportunity to create something unique here—a space that combined beautiful shopping with the community-centered coffee culture Austin is known for. In the spring of 2025, I found the most charming building in Austin and knew it was the right time to take a chance on my dream of creating a boutique and coffee shop under one roof. I have always loved the ambiance of retail spaces and wanted to create a place where friends, families, and even strangers could gather, grab a coffee, work for a while, catch up with a friend, and then discover a fun new outfit or the perfect baby or birthday gift. We truly wanted to create something for the entire community. I moved to Austin in April 2025 and immediately began the intensive build-out process to prepare the space for our opening that August. It has been the most fun, challenging, and rewarding experience of my life. We are coming up on our one year of business and it has been such a delight to experience how warmly the community has embraced Mazúr. I’m especially grateful for the amazing team of women who have helped me serve our customers and create such a welcoming experience every day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like anything built from the ground up, the journey definitely hasn’t been without its challenges. I think when you start something from nothing, you’re bound to experience roadblocks along the way. For me, those moments have been opportunities to learn, pivot, and try something different—and I think that’s what owning a small business is all about.
One of the biggest surprises was the incredible support we received when we first opened. We honestly never expected the turnout we had, and we quickly had to adjust our inventory, coffee supplies, and staffing to keep up with demand and serve our customers well. It was a fast-paced learning experience, but one I’m so grateful for.
I’ve also been incredibly blessed with an adaptable team that has been patient through every learning curve and always willing to jump into the unexpected. Watching us grow together has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
Personally, I’ve grown tremendously as a business owner. I’ve become more confident in making decisions, trying new ideas, and not being afraid if something doesn’t work out exactly as planned. I’ve learned that not everything is within my control, and that’s okay. My faith has been my foundation throughout this journey, and I trust that the Lord continues to guide each step. That perspective has given me the confidence to embrace challenges, celebrate the wins, and keep moving forward with purpose.

What are your plans for the future?
Right now, our focus is on continuing to refine our business model and creating the best possible experience for our customers. As a new business, we’re constantly learning, listening to feedback, and remaining flexible as we grow. We believe some of the best ideas come from paying attention to what our community needs, so we’re always open to evolving and making improvements.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue serving the Austin community while thoughtfully growing the Mazúr brand. Our hope is to one day expand into other areas of Texas, bringing the same welcoming atmosphere, thoughtfully curated shopping experience, and quality coffee to even more communities. For now, though, we’re focused on building a strong foundation, taking things one step at a time, and enjoying the journey along the way.
