Hi Lily, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello! My name is Lily, and I first became interested in floral preservation and floral art after I married my partner in 2021. The bouquet from our wedding ceremony was absolutely gorgeous, and as I researched various methods for how I could hold on to it forever, I was drawn into the world of floral preservation, art, and design.
In doing so, I realized there was a deeper emotional need to tangibly hold onto memories. For me, it was my wedding; for others, it might be a memorial service, graduation, or another meaningful milestone in their life. After seeing what I created from my bouquet, friends and family began asking me to preserve their flowers, and that’s when I started to understand just how significant a role flowers play in our lives and memories.
What excites me most is that every piece tells a story. Whether I’m working with found flowers or preserving blooms from life’s big moments, the art I create has personal history and is a tribute to nature. There’s nothing more beautiful or grounding to me than nature itself, whether I’m creating with it or simply admiring it. Nature is all around us, and it deserves to be preserved.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges was taking something I loved as a creative hobby and hoping it could become a full-time career. There were plenty of moments where I questioned whether it would ever be financially stable enough to support me. Building a business takes time, and there were seasons filled with uncertainty, long hours, and a lot of trial and error. But each market, wholesale partnership, and returning customer gave me a little more confidence that I was building something sustainable. Looking back, those challenges taught me resilience and reminded me that meaningful growth rarely happens overnight.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create handmade botanical jewelry, pressed flower artwork, and custom keepsakes using real flowers. While my collections feature preserved blooms turned into wearable jewelry pieces and art prints, I also love creating one-of-a-kind commissions. Whether it’s preserving flowers from a wedding bouquet, memorial arrangement, or a bouquet with sentimental meaning, I enjoy helping people transform meaningful blooms into lasting keepsakes they can treasure for years.
What I’m most proud of is creating pieces that carry a story. Every flower has a memory attached to it, and it’s incredibly rewarding to preserve those memories in a way that can be worn, displayed, and passed down.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think luck and timing have both played an important role in my journey. Moving to Austin turned out to be one of the rewarding decisions I could have made for my business. I didn’t know at the time how supportive the local community would be or how many opportunities there would be through artisan markets and small business events. My business really began to thrive here, and it gave me the confidence to turn what started as a hobby into a full-time career.
