Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Catter.
Hi Kristin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hospitality has always been in my blood. My grandmother was known for throwing the most over-the-top themed parties for all of the officers and their wives when my grandfather was a Naval Officer in the Navy. She would immerse herself in each new city, state, and country they were stationed at to learn their culture, their food, the “vibe,” and then create dinner parties based on her experiences in each place. She loved entertaining. I watched my father pursue a career in hospitality and knew that it felt like the path I wanted to take. I got my Bachelor’s in Science at the University of Texas at Austin, where I focused on business foundations and communications. I had two distinct class projects that furthered my passion and direction for planning. Post-grad, I took an internship working for a coordination company in town and was then promoted to an associate planner. After being there for a few years, I knew that coordination was for me, but I wanted to do things on my own terms. I jumped in headfirst into starting my own business, and I have never looked back. I now have a team of four planners that all started as assistants, and I have watched them blossom and grow into their own baddie planner era. Each woman has worked beside me and taken the knowledge I have shared to push themselves down their own paths and careers. I think that is empowering.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think anyone in this industry would agree that the one constant is that there is no constant. Everything is rapidly changing in our world and if you do not adapt with it, you get left behind. I have watched the economy tank, social media take the industry over, C**** literally kicked our asses in an unprecedented time. No on knew how to manage social gatherings becoming taboo. Then came the takeover of AI. People always ask me, how do you keep your edge? I have the will and determination to never give up. I am unabashedly myself, take it or leave it. I know that not every client is for me, but I know the ones that are. know that I am going to give 110% of myself to them everyday and on game day. No one is safe. Vendors either love me or hate me because I keep it real. I hold myself to the highest standards and everyone else that I work with.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
One of the biggest risks I took as a business owner was promoting one of my assistants to event planner during the COVID pandemic. At a time when the events industry was facing unprecedented uncertainty, many businesses were scaling back, postponing growth, or closing their doors altogether. Choosing to expand my team in the middle of that uncertainty was a leap of faith.
I made that decision because I believed in the future of my business and the value of investing in exceptional client service, even when the path ahead wasn’t clear. Rather than allowing uncertainty to dictate my vision, I focused on building a stronger foundation for the future. I knew that when events returned, I wanted Kristin Catter Events to be prepared to serve clients with the same personalized care, creativity, and attention to detail they had come to expect.
That decision ultimately became a turning point for my company. It reinforced my belief that growth often requires courage, and that the greatest opportunities can come from investing in your vision even during challenging times.
