Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamaria Herndon.
Hi Kamaria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Photography is one of those things that had to find me again. I have always been a creative – words were my preferred medium for a long time. As I got older, I realized that as much as I loved to write, it wasn’t always something I wanted to share with the world, and I longed for art that I could share. I started with my phone, taking pictures of mostly my husband and food. I am also extremely blessed to have an amazing friend who owns a studio in the city, and had opportunities to take candids there. It was at The Empty Space that I fell in love with immortalizing moments of intimacy. I built an instagram for my photography, and started sharing more. I was presented with different opportunities to create art and capture memories for others. And now, I am on the journey to build a little photography empire.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a struggle, but I am learning every day that the work is worth it. Austin is full of amazing creators and photographers, and I am not the most outspoken thing on the planet. So much of being an entrepreneur is putting yourself out there, and that has been my biggest struggle. Consistently being confident enough to say, “Hey! I do this amazing thing and I am really good at it! Let’s make magic together.” Even this interview has me anxious, but, again, worth it work.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an intimacy photographer. I love capturing moments of bliss that people experience, both solo and partnered. I have experience with maternity shoots, elopements, and party events. My speciality, I would say, is in capturing rope bondage and lifestyle moments. I am proud to be invited into some of people’s most private and vulnerable moments and having the honor to make sure those moments last forever. I am not your typical photographer — I don’t ask for specific poses or coach you through your shoot, I am here to capture you in your most authentic and most vulnerable and most honest moments. You are the magic. I just put it on film for you.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson that I have learned so far is to do it scared. On the other side of fear is everything you have ever dreamed of. Do it scared.
