Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Boyle.
Lauren, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always believed that children deserve to be surrounded by curiosity, creativity, kindness, and people who genuinely believe in their potential.
After moving to Austin as a teenager, I attended The University of Texas where I graduated with a BA in English and a minors Education and Spanish. I also had the opportunity to study Educational Psychology at the University of Sussex in England. Those experiences deepened my interest in how children learn and confirmed that I wanted to dedicate my life to creating meaningful educational experiences.
In 2008, I founded Lupine Lane with a clear vision: to create a place where learning is joyful, hands-on, project-based, and centered around the whole child. We began with a small group of children in one classroom, and over the years, through the incredible support of our families, staff, and community, Lupine Lane has grown into a thriving school serving a wonderfully diverse array of children through our school-year programs, summer camps, and extracurricular offerings.
Today, my role extends beyond the classroom and running a school. I spend much of my time developing curriculum, mentoring, building systems, and creating software designed to support high-quality early childhood education. My goal has always been to cultivate something that meaningfully impacts the children who walk through our doors each day, which ultimately makes the world a better place.
At the heart of everything, the mission has remained consistent. Every decision comes back to one question: “What is best for children?” If we can help children develop a lifelong love of learning, confidence in themselves, creativity, courage, and kindness, then we’ve done something that reaches far beyond the classroom.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Creating anything meaningful—whether it’s a school, a building, or a family—comes with inherent challenges. To me, the question has never been if obstacles will arise, but how we choose to respond to them.
Over the years, we’ve experienced different challenges that come with starting a school from the ground up, navigating how to finance and build our permanent campus, adapting during periods of rapid growth, leading through unexpected world events, and continually evolving to meet the changing needs of children and families. Every challenge has required us to learn new things, make thoughtful decisions, and become stronger as individuals and as a community.
I’ve learned that obstacles are opportunities. They require us to examine our assumptions, improve our systems, strengthen our relationships, and become more resilient.
Rather than trying to avoid challenges, I’ve come to embrace them as part of the journey. Growth occurs when we remain committed to our values, stay curious, solve problems with kindness, and continue moving forward one thoughtful step at a time.
As you know, we’re big fans of Lupine Lane. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Lupine Lane is a project-based early childhood school serving children from toddlerhood through elementary ages. Our mission is to instill a love of learning and creativity in every child by intentionally guiding the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and creatively.
We believe learning should be an experience. Our classrooms are filled with opportunities for children to ask questions, solve problems, create, build, experiment, cook, explore nature, make art, conduct science investigations, perform music, and collaborate with one another. We want children to understand not only what they are learning, but why it matters.
Every aspect of our school is intentionally designed around the child. We place tremendous value on creativity, connection, curiosity, courage, and kindness. Our teachers are focused on greater goals than simply delivering curriculum—they’re building relationships, observing each child’s unique strengths, and creating meaningful experiences that inspire children to become confident, capable learners.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the community we’ve built. Now, some of our original students have grown up and have returned to Lupine Lane as camp counselors and teachers, creating a beautiful full-circle experience. Seeing children who once walked through our doors as toddlers come back as thoughtful, compassionate young adults is one of the greatest affirmations that what we’re doing truly matters.
I’m also proud of the culture we’ve created among our staff. We invest deeply in professional development, mentorship, and personal growth because we believe that when educators continue learning, children benefit. We strive to cultivate a school where both children and adults feel inspired to become the very best versions of themselves.
Above all, I want people to know that Lupine Lane is more than a school—it’s a community built on the belief that every child deserves to be seen, known, challenged, encouraged, and loved. Our hope is that children leave us not only prepared for their next steps, but with a genuine love of learning, confidence in who they are, and the curiosity and courage to positively shape the world around them.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck definitely exists and can be impactful, but it’s more nuanced than we often imagine it.
When hard work is coupled with an unwavering belief in your mission, what might appear to be “luck” becomes a propellant rather than a coincidence. Opportunities present themselves to those who remain committed to learning, improving, building relationships, and showing up with consistency. Luck is rarely the opportunity itself—it is our willingness to recognize it, embrace it with courage and curiosity, and do the work required to turn possibility into reality.
The same is true of challenges. What could initially feel like bad luck often becomes the catalyst for growth, innovation, or a better path than the one originally envisioned. Some of the decisions that have most strengthened Lupine Lane were born from obstacles we never would have chosen.
I’m grateful for the fortunate moments we’ve experienced, but I don’t think they’ve defined our journey. I believe our willingness to work hard, persevere, and remain deeply committed to our purpose has allowed us to recognize and maximize those moments when they appeared.
In the end, I think luck favors those who are primed for it. When opportunity meets hard work and an unwavering belief in what you’re building, extraordinary things can happen.
