Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Juhlke.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Embrace Life Initiative was born from a calling to serve families who are too often overlooked or underserved. Throughout my journey, I saw that many women and families from ethnically diverse and underrepresented communities were facing unplanned pregnancies with limited access to resources, support, and life-affirming options. Too often, they felt alone and unaware that compassionate help was available.
That realization inspired me to found Embrace Life Initiative. Our mission is to educate, empower, mobilize, and support ethnically diverse and underrepresented families by connecting them with practical resources, parenting support, adoption education, and a community that walks alongside them with dignity, compassion, and hope.
Today, we collaborate with churches, pregnancy resource centers, healthcare providers, and community organizations across Central Texas to help ensure that every family—regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background—has access to the support they need to thrive. We believe every child has inherent worth, every parent deserves to be treated with respect, and every family should have the opportunity to make informed decisions surrounded by care rather than isolation.
What began as a personal calling has grown into a movement centered on relationship, collaboration, and restoring hope in communities that have historically been underserved. Every challenge we’ve faced has strengthened our commitment to ensuring that families who have often been left out of the conversation know they are seen, valued, and never alone.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like many nonprofits, our biggest challenges have been securing sustainable funding and recruiting enough volunteers to meet the growing needs of the communities we serve. Building awareness and developing long-term partnerships also takes time, but each challenge has strengthened our commitment to the mission. We continue to be encouraged by the generosity of our supporters and the meaningful relationships we’ve built along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What makes us unique is our intentional focus on reaching communities that have historically been underserved and underrepresented. Rather than duplicating existing services, we work alongside community partners to expand access, strengthen local networks, and ensure families receive compassionate, culturally responsive care. We are most proud of the lives we’ve impacted, the families we’ve strengthened, and the partnerships we’ve built to create lasting change across Central Texas.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is ensuring that every person knows they are seen, valued, and loved. Too many individuals and families, especially those from underrepresented communities feel overlooked or unsupported during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. I believe every life has inherent dignity and every family deserves compassionate care, practical support, and the opportunity to thrive. My passion is helping create communities where hope replaces isolation, relationships inspire lasting change, and every person is reminded that they matter.
