Conversations with Haider Kayamali

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haider Kayamali.

haider, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I came to college and had little to no idea what I really wanted to do. I didnt get into the mccombs business school so I was trying to get in, but failed at calculus and had to drop that. At the time, i had started making content where I interview strangers about their life. I would ask them deep and vulnerable questions. I got inspired to do that after going to Japan where I met a bunch of strangers who had really cool life stories. I’ve always been someone who likes to talk to people, so I wanted to use my social media to do it in an intentional way. Through that, I started meeting other creators and growing my network. Opportunities for collabs came and brands were starting to catch on. After going to a few run clubs, I thought it would be cool to use my platform to host intentional community events, Because at these runs I would never leave feeling super connected to anyone. I got the idea to do Sunsets with strangers. So far I have hosted 5 and my last one had 45 people come. I’m hosting a yoga event next just to try it out and see how it goes!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. The first few months were really slow. I took a one month break and then coming back to school I had to make the decision wether I wanted to really do this or not. Being a creator, burnout happens if you start to forget why you started. They key is to just have fun and remember why you started. I wouldn’t say everything is perfect right now either, but its a process!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a social media creator but not your average type. I do interviews with people about their life. I ask them 1 question that leads to a story of their life. Most people have seen me from interviews with some big creators. I’m most proud of the impact i’m able to make. People message me all the time telling me how the interviews have helped them and that to me is just so awesome.

How do you think about luck?
I used to think that success came from sheer hard work, but now i’m a big believer that luck plays a big part. The good thing is that I also believe we can create our own luck. A lot of the opportunities i’ve been blessed with have been a byproduct of me putting myself in the right spaces or just by showing up. I tell everyone that you’re bound to have a lucky day if you show up everyday.
