Life & Work with John F. Jusuf

Today we’d like to introduce you to John F. Jusuf.

Hi John F., so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my professional career working in banking, but I always had a strong interest in art and creativity. Eventually, I began exploring tattooing, and what started as a passion gradually became a serious career. I made the decision to leave banking and pursue tattooing full-time.
I eventually established 7 Fukujin Tattoo in Jakarta and have continued developing my craft through years of experience. Tattooing has also taken me internationally, travelling from expo to expo and working within tattoo communities across Malaysia, Canada, Europe and Australia.
Meeting artists and clients from different backgrounds has continually influenced my work and helped me grow both creatively and professionally.
Today, I continue working from my studio in Jakarta while pursuing international conventions and guest spots, as well as developing my own tattoo-care products. Looking back, moving from banking into tattooing was a major change, but it allowed me to build a career around something I genuinely enjoy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Leaving a stable career in banking to pursue tattooing meant starting from scratch and building my skills, reputation and client base over time. Establishing my own studio and gaining recognition internationally also came with many challenges, but each experience taught me to adapt, keep improving and stay committed to my craft.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a tattoo artist and owner of 7 Fukujin Tattoo in Jakarta, specializing in custom tattoos that combine strong visual design with personal meaning. I’m proud of building my career from a background in banking and taking my work internationally through tattoo conventions across the world. What sets me apart is my focus on turning each client’s story into a meaningful piece.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family deserves a lot of the credits. They supported my decision from stable work in banking to pursuing career in tattoo, which gave me the confidence to take the risk and build my career and studio.
