Meet Edwin (Eazy Boi) Griffin of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edwin (Eazy Boi) Griffin.

Hi Edwin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into music began in middle school, specifically at Webb Middle School during lunch breaks. My friends and I would gather to freestyle, and that’s when I realized I had something unique to offer. My friends used to tell me I make freestyle look Eazy. That’s how I got my name. My counselor, Ms. Berry, encouraged me to participate in the talent show, which was my first performance. I performed Lil Flip’s “This Is the Way We Ball,” and the audience, including the teachers, loved it. I ended up winning the talent show. After finishing high school, I made the decision to pursue my career with dedication. This led me to connect with a producer I found on Myspace, who was living with his grandmother but had the necessary recording equipment. This was the late, great DDI, who produced his first mixtape called “Klown Season.” Initially, I wasn’t treating rap as a serious career; I was just enjoying it for fun until my friends showed interest in buying my music, prompting me to start selling CDs. After getting started, I began performing at local events like SXSW and various bars on Sixth Street downtown. During this time, I met a local artist named Lil Sicc, who was hosting shows throughout the city and inviting me to join him. This helped me build a reputation in Austin, which eventually led to opportunities to perform outside the city, including paid gigs in the Dallas and Houston areas. In 2018, I released my single “What Time It Is” across all major music platforms. The song became a major turning point in my journey, gaining me exposure and opening doors to opportunities that took me to Atlanta and Los Angeles. In 2019, I reached another milestone by becoming an official SXSW artist, while also having my music featured as a jingle for “Da Radio Show” in Los Angeles. From releasing music independently to performing on major stages and expanding my reach across different cities, every step has been a part of the journey. I’m grateful for how far I’ve come, but I’m far from finished.
My journey continues.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, there have been bumps and obstacles along the road to success. But I’ve learned that every L isn’t a loss—it’s a lesson.
I’ve experienced some difficult moments in my life, including times when I struggled with homelessness and had to deal with personal challenges that tested me in ways I never expected. There were moments when giving up would have been the easy choice. But through it all, I never fell out of love with music.
Music has always been more than just something I do—it’s a part of who I am. Through the struggles, the setbacks, the lessons, and the victories, I continued to create, continued to believe, and continued to push forward.
My story isn’t about having a perfect journey. It’s about surviving the hard times, learning from them, and still finding a reason to keep going.
Every L is a lesson. Every setback is part of the story. And my journey continues.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an artist, and when you listen to my music, I want you to be able to paint the picture vividly. My music tells stories, creates emotions, and gives people something they can connect with.
I’m known as the guy who puts smiles on people’s faces and gets them to yell out, “You Know What Time It Is!” That phrase has become more than just a saying—it’s a part of my identity and a reflection of the energy I bring wherever I go.
But beyond the music, the stage, and everything that comes with being an artist, what I’m most proud of is being a father to my two kings, Payton and Aubrey Griffin. I’m raising my boys to become men, teaching them about life, strength, responsibility, perseverance, and the importance of believing in themselves. Being their father is one of my greatest accomplishments.
What sets me apart from others is that I believe I was chosen for this. I know there is a purpose behind my journey, and I’m the one in control of the drive. No matter what obstacles come my way, I keep pushing forward. I’ve been through the struggles, learned from the losses, celebrated the victories, and continued to grow.
I’m not just chasing a career—I’m building a legacy.
You Know What Time It Is. The journey continues.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success means waking up every day and doing something productive with your time. It’s about having a goal and being willing to work for it, even when you don’t have much to start with.
You might have a goal of paying your phone bill by the end of the week, but only have $2 to your name. That doesn’t mean you give up. You grind. You put in overtime. You find a way to keep moving until you reach that goal.
It might take a little time. It might not happen exactly when you want it to. But if you stay committed, keep working, and refuse to quit, eventually you’ll get there.
That’s what success means to me.
