Conversations with Carly Caputo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Caputo.

Hi Carly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started taking photos of comedy shows while working at a record store in Satellite Beach, FL that put on comedy shows! I loved it and started taking pictures at more venues around that area and Orlando before moving to Austin to fully go for it!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like anytime you pursue something in this type of field there’s some struggles and I personally have a lot of medical/health issues that sometimes complicate my schedule, but honestly I’ve found myself surrounded by really great people that have helped me through any of those struggles and getting to do what you love everyday is worth it all.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work in comedy photography! I love photography as a whole but capturing the on and off stage moments within the world of comedy is what I’m most drawn to. I’d say I’m most proud of who I get to work with and around. I’ve not only gotten to take pictures of some of the legends in the comedy world I also work side by side with people like Troy Conrad who is a comedy photography legend himself. What sets me apart from others is actually what got Troy interested in my work. I like to create these “seamless carousels” they give an online-scrapbook recap to every show it’s become my staple. I want people looking at my photos to feel like they were there for the show.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
It’s okay to ask to be paid for your work! Of course there’s a grind to everything but I spent a long time just giving away my work for free because I didn’t think I/it was “worth it” but it was and I should’ve believed in that more! Also charge your batteries lol…
