Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Plata Mazzotti.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a husband and father of three. I graduated as an Electronics and Telecommunications Engineer and started my career at Ericsson, doing software development and testing for public telephone networks. I steadily worked my way up into leadership roles and later completed a master’s degree in IT Management.
When the dot-com and 3G bubble burst, I was laid off during the recession that followed. That setback ended up opening a new chapter for me: together with my partners, I founded TXM, a systems integration company. We started small, but grew steadily and diversified our products and services over time. Today we’ve completed hundreds of projects internationally, across five continents, in some of the most complex telecom networks in the world.
A few years after TXM took off, we founded Omnifon, a spinoff that grew into a BPO now serving more than two dozen countries in four languages.
I’ve always believed in continuous learning, so along the way I earned a CISSP certification and, more recently, completed a postgraduate degree in AI and Machine Learning.
Outside of work, I like staying active, spending time with people, and getting creative through carpentry and tech projects — I enjoy working with my hands, not just a keyboard. My wife and I also serve at our church, as a way of giving back for what we’ve been given.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not. In the beginning, we had to start with our own limited capital — no bank would lend to us — while big companies we worked with had tough payment policies, sometimes stretching to 90 days. Over the years we’ve also weathered industry downturns, macroeconomic crises, and our share of tax, labor, and other disputes.
A friend of mine used to say that anyone who starts a business expecting everyone to pay on time, total loyalty from every employee, and fair play from every competitor is just fantasizing. The key is to control what you can, overcome what you can’t avoid, and learn from all of it. It’s impossible to dodge every problem, all the time — you just get better at handling them.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Get close to your alumni organizations — they’re an underused resource. Attend every networking opportunity you can, even the ones that don’t seem directly relevant at first; you never know who you’ll meet or where a conversation will lead. Many schools also run formal mentoring programs, which are a great structured way to connect with people willing to invest their time in you.
Beyond that, I’d say show up consistently and be genuinely curious about other people’s work — mentorship and good networking relationships tend to grow out of real conversations, not transactional ones.
